replace manual with auto

Does anyone think it is practical to replace my 2004 4x4 manual transmission with an automatic trasnmission? Tips or tricks?

Not sure about the practicality of it but there will be work involve as you probably already know such as taking off the transfer case and getting a tranny with all the wiring. If that is what you want, I say do it!

What are your reasons behind wanting to switch? Most people want the manual transmission. I don't think it would be worth it.

No, it would not be practical... Between the big hole you would leave in the floor, to having to run lines for a tranny cooler, messing with shift linkage, the codes you'll throw because you dont have the right trans (might even have to change the computer all together)

Sell it and buy an auto if you want auto... Thats a little more practical.

X2…
A lot of work just getting the parts together.
Computer, harnesses, parts, shifter (although a floor auto shifter is good), there is a lot of electronics in the vehicle that you will have to determine if there is a difference in the auto and manual trans.

It can be done, good luck,,, post pics.

The parts list is identical to those wanting to go manual. Just has a different flavor.

Every ranger has a giant hole in the floor, its just if you got an auto you have a cheesy flimsy plate over the hole.

The road less travel doesn't mean its not practical, the auto to man swap is just more common. It seems like a waste of time to me to just swap the trans, I would rather swap the engine too.
