i have an idea for my shift **** on my hurst.....

i hate the small **** on the hurst shifter, its so small my hand always slips off it and my fist ends up hittin the radio and all that

sooo my idea is take a pool ball (cue ball, white one) and use a drill press to drill a 3/8 hole and put a threaded insert in there with some epoxy and then screw it onto my shifter

is this possible? drilling a hole in a pool ball? im think it is but i also think the ball might crumble or break apart where the hole is

do yall think it will work?

Usually people put an 8-ball on there.

 

For sure you can drill a cue ball, they are made of resin.

I know the stock shifters have grooves, not threads, so I don't think we can use it. But with your hurst shifter, the **** should have threads, and should accept any of the universal kits with interchangable thread patterns,.

 

im not sure about you guys but my shifter has the vertical sloted threads. So I cant go get a new ****. Any ideas, short of trying to run a die on it.

try an get a **** that the hole is big enough and it has a allen screw in the side. that way you can tighten it down even if it doenst have splines.

Yeah I have had quite a few problems with the hole not bein big enough. Ill give it a try.

Drilling a pool ball is far from easy because ideally you need to get about 1/2" or a little more into the ball and since they are round and slick they are close to impossible to keep straight, it can be done, but we went through four ***** before we kept one from splitting from the drill.

It can be done I just put an 8ball on my level 2 shifter.

 

Ive never really desired any other shifter **** than the hurst ball, or the t shifter.

 

I got the level 2 one but it had no ball for it. I got one that worked from a bit but billitin the cold suuuuucks! And buddy's dad just had one so we got crafty and did it up. Its a lil big but it works great.

I run an aluminum “8” Ball, can’t remember the vendor.

The Wht Cue Ball will work but there are other colored ***** that might work with the color of your vehicle.

 

That's what I was thinking, I'd use a #2 ball.

I will try to locate the guy that sells aluminum Pool *****, in fact there are a lot of Pool Ball Shift ***** out there but not many made of aluminum.
My “8” Ball looks just like a real “8” ball even to the off colored white inlay around the number.

This is general stuff, a real pool ball is used but not aluminum, not that it is bad but it is real. Make sure to specify the thread size, this one is metric but they must sell one that is for a Hurst.


There are a lot of the “2” Pool Ball Shift ***** out there, search’um up.
The **** I use is from TM-Machine but from what I can see they do not make much any more, I am not even sure if they are making any Pool Ball ***** but mine is first class machining and painting, one of the best I have ever seen.

 

SO I gots a question. To get the stock shifter **** off you just pull? I have been trying that and nothing. down heat help? Also whats the connection like? (ie, press fit, glue, screw?)

 

when i took my stock shift **** off, i brought the whole shift lever in the house, stuck the **** end into a pot of boiling water for about 2 min, then (wearing gloves) just pulled the **** right off. on my '88 it was hot enough in the cab one summer day, it just came off easily. its a press fit onto a spline, i dont think there was any adheshive involved. you could take a hair dry to it for a bit and that heat might be enough for it to come off then.
