Soft Clutch Pedal - Replace Master Cylinder?

I recently had the leaking clutch slave cylinder on my 98 replaced, however the clutch pedal is still very soft even after the replacement. I took the top off the clutch fluid reservoir, removed the rubber air seal cup, and pumped the clutch pedal about 10 times. There was no movement of fluid in the reservoir (level didn't drop), and the mechanic also said that he didn't notice the master cylinder leaking. Is there just air in the system that needs to be bled out, or could there be another problem?

Besides being soft, does your clutch appear to work normally ?

No problems putting it in to reverse or 1st gear when at a complete stop with engine running?

It seems to work normally, other than being much too soft. I'm able to shift into 1st gear and reverse, but the pedal is still too soft and travels too far before having any resistance (pedal is just as soft as before leaking slave cylinder was replaced).

Symptoms read like the seals are worn internally, the fluid is getting by the seals instead of pushing the slave cylinder.
