Has been mentioned to me that i should add a second cooler for my 2.3l auto tranny to help with my growing need for towing. I started looking at several options and now I don't know what is my best option. My question is do i use both the internal cooler and the new aux cooler? if i just use the aux cooler should i add another fan? And in the winter wouldn't there be a bit of concern for the tranny running to low? Also i bought another temp gauge for the tranny just to keep an added eye on it in case my handy goes south. though i have yet to look up an install for it. i have done lots of work on trucks but as far as the transmission goes... well this rebuild is gonna be the first time i have ever touched one. after seeing my bro do it a few times i know how particular auto tranny can be so any and all advice is welcome.

 

as long as the extra cooler is mounted up front it will get airflow across it to help cool my factory cooler was right behind the grill in front of the a/c condenser. Now when its stopped the radiator should be able to cool it with no issues. but when towing the cool air across the extra cooler should bring the temps down. You can add an extra fan but you don't have a lot of room out front and you have to make sure it flows the same way as the radiator fan or it will do more harm than good.

 

well i have figured out everything but one simple issue. By passes. now i am seeing fluid control thermostat that stops the flow until it get hot enough it needs to go through the cooler. i am adding a second cooler in series. my concern is in the winter when i don't want the second cooler to be used. is there a thermostat that can by pass the second cooler only until it get hot enough that it needs to? i don't want to completely restrict the flow.

 

WOW... disregard that last post. started over thinking and missed the answer. i believe i just answered my own question lmao!!! that one-track mind thing tends to get in my way sometimes

 

Im pretty sure the autos can do that internally just as a BTW. i think i read that somewhere.
