Tranny breather?

My truck has a steel tube that comes straight down the drivers side of my tranny. I would like to know if it is the breather because it doesn't sound like the other ones I did searches on the site. I do want to extend all my breathers although I don't go through much water it is nice to have in case I have to.

The tube is open on the end and is only about 3/8 in diameter and the open end faces downward.

if its off to the pass. side of the tranny that is your breather line. Just run a length of rubber hose off it and extend it upwards.

ok everybody laugh now
but when i overfilled my transmission when i changed the fluid(first time changing tranny fluid in a vehicle, and im not a mechanic, the book said it took something like 12qts to refill, so i started putting in, didnt know that just changing filter and fluid only drained 6 qts and you had to flush to get out all the fluid ) any ways after 6 qts fluid went in it started coming out the metal pipe pointing downwards on the driver side next to the tranny, i now have to correct amount of fluid in my transmission
