tranny service
tranny service
so my truck rolled 40k and i heard thats when its time for her first tranny service my question is being a broke student how hard is it to do yourself and other than changing the fluid what else needs done
haha im doing that my next day off and they want 100 to do the tranny at the shop so i got to thinking why not just do both myself and save some $$ is there a certain weight i should use sorry the only automatic i ever owned was under warranty so im clueless on atf
Drop the pan, replace the filter (under the pan) replace the pan gasket and reinstall the pan being careful not to over tighten the pan bolts or cross thread them. the trans takes Mercon-V. start out with 4 quarts, let it run for about 15 mins in park and check it. if it is reading on the stick at all, then drive it a few miles then check it again
do not overfill it!! also, the reason for driving it is to let the trans fluid warm up so thermal expansion will take place before you check it. if you fill it cold, when it warms up it will be overfull
Mark...they dont make Mercon yet HAHA
