Trans Synchro's or Clutch?
Trans Synchro's or Clutch?
Hello everyone. I'm a new poster to the boards. I've lurked here before... Just never had a reason to post. But now I now I need your help!
My 07' Ranger Sport is having a shifting issue. First the details: Manual gearbox, 4x2, 3.0 engine, 58,600 miles (hard miles....) My powertrain warranty runs out at 60,000. Which is why I'm posting today.
It's become very hard to get into gear over the past week. First and fifth especially. What's odd is it isn't 100% of the time. Sometimes It will act normally, but most other times it will fight me all the way to and from work. Like I said...worst in first and fifth, but it acts up in the others as well. My truck pulls out and stops fine. I don't feel any slipping. This leads me to believe it is in my synchro's....which would be covered under my warranty.
Basically I need some help determining if I should goto the dealer or not. I can't afford repairs out of warranty. I can do the work myself if it's the clutch....not so much on the tranny. We looked in the service manual at the clutch adjustment...and it only says there should be "considerable" travel in the linkage. Not an exact measurement. Trans fluid is full by the way.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris

Well, I want to....but clutch components are not covered. If they tear it down and find its in the clutch, then I have to pay to have it put back together. This is why i'm trying to diagnose before I take it...
