Can I Fit these gears...

Can I put 4.56 gears in my stock axle? 2000 2.5, aka 3.73s.. with 33s.

Do you have the 7.5 or the 8.8? I'm thinking 7.5

Yeah you can, I would look into upgrading to a 8.8 though just for a little more strength.

Agreed, find an 8.8 axle first. The teeth on the gears for a 4.56 and 7.5" are going to be pretty small...

So what your telling me is I NEED a rear axle, with an 8.8 rear. Can I get one from an explorer at a junkyard stock? Like, do the explorers come stock with an 8.8 rear?

You are far better off upgrading to a beefier axle because of the 33's....PLUS, you may get an axle with 4.10s in it already. Doing that will allow you to put off the gear swap and still make it more drivable. Plus, there's alot more options out there for the 8.8 as far as differentials and covers.

Search 8.8.
The explore axle is 31 spline (better), 1.5" wider and 95+ have disc brakes. But you will have to remount spring perches and shock mounts. There are also more lockers and such for a 31 spline that the 28 spline normally found in rangers.
However the ranger 8.8 is a 28 spline, still a good upgrade over the 7.5 you have, and will bolt right in. The 4.10's are more common in rangers too. If you find a level 2 fx4 axle it is 31 spline, but they are really rare to find and the torsen limited slips in their are somewhat known to explode.

^^Kind of - sort of. I've only seen two such events of blowing up Torsens. Both '02's...happens to be the same year they recalled 'em.

I couldn't remember the years but I have heard of more than two.
Either way, rare to find that axle.

I went to a junkyard today and they told me that there is a explorer 8.8 rear end all ready to go down in New Jersey. I haven't called on it yet but it may be locked... which would be nice. Is $700 too much?

Holy crap yes it is too much. I wouldn't pay over 300 and that is asking a lot.

Damn, well there goes that idea...
I guess I can search for anything 95 and lower. Or even just get a ranger 8.8 with 4.10's
