Transmission extension gasket

I have a 1989 Ranger, 4 cylinder 5 speed. My transmission is slowly leaking oil. It's pretty clear that the it's leaking out through the gasket between the rear extension part and the rest of the tranny.

My question is this: is it a straightforward procedure to simply loosen the bolts and remove the extension to replace the gasket? I know the drive shaft will slide right out. I just don't want to go into it blind and then find out there's a bunch of complex springs and gears and stuff in there that I won't be able to get back together. Neither of the two repair manuals I have address this.

Anybody have any experience with this?

Should be straight forward, un bolt and pull it off straight. Use some proper silicone and it should make for an easy and effective fix
