Transmission filler tube leaking

I've been having major issues with my transmission leaking over the last few years and just got back for spring break and noticed that the filler tube is leaking. It looks like it is where the hard plastic filler tube from the engine bay meets what looks to be a metal tube coming up from the transmission.

Is there a gasket at this connection that may just need to be swapped? Can you just yank the filler tube out from the top and goober it up with some RTV silicone and push it back in and seal it up? I have all break to work on this but really want this dang thing to stop leaking.

It also only leaks when it is hot when I'm driving on the highway for extended periods of time. Is there anything else up near the top of the transmission that could be leaking down to the tube that I should look at as well?

Mine is a metal tube with an o ring on it. RTV will not stick to atf.

The tube is held in by one bolt at the top of the trans, check its o ring. This single bolt is a real pain. It has a bracket that holds wiring for the O2's.

If your puking fluid is the trans filled correctly? When its hot the fluid will expand will lead to an overfilled condition which is not good fro the trans.

The transmission level is good. It's right at the bottom of the hatches when warm and gets past the hatches when driven on the highway which I think causes it to get to that level and spill out. It's weird that everytime I have someone else look at it they say the level is good but it still leaks. I thought there may be a leak from the engine coolant into it but the coolant level is steady and the transmission fluid doesn't look contaminated.

I'll jack it up sometime this weekend and get some pictures to show exactly what I mean, thanks for the response!

Is it possible the pan gasket is leaking near the front?

check the overdrive servo cover. the round cover by the dipstick tube where it goes in

you can remove the dipstick tube, clean the end of it and inside of the short tube with brakleen and a rag then out some gray RTV on it

The gasket was leaking before but last summer I had the gasket and pan replaced as the dealership messed up big time on them. I cleaned the entire thing off and ran it until hot and it is leaking down from somewhere up top. It was leaking from the tube itself but I sealed that off and now it seems like it is coming from above on the passengers side. It's tough to get a good view of anything there because the exhaust runs right by that side and there is that dang shield that never likes to come off easy.

Is there a vent for the transmission somewhere up top that could be plugged that when it gets warm it overflows because of the pressure? I'm just trying to cover all the bases here.

The vent comes from the top of the tail shaft area, runs up a rubber hose to a metal tube. Which runs up the top trans to the bell housing makes a bend and runs down the driver side to the ground.

Clean the trans up with some degreaser, see if this helps you track the leak.

I've done the clean, drive, clean, drive test numerous times and found that the area that the tube goes into the transmission is where it is leaking as well as where the two parts of the filler tube meet is also leaking. I called ford and they have an o-ring that I picked up and put it on the bottom and put it back into the pan. However, this o-ring does not fit snug at all. The tube is also mounted so that it won't push down on the o-ring. Is this right? Does anyone have a picture of their filler tube entering into their transmission?

Its kinda hard to get a camera down in there. I can tell you when I changed my trans out this dipstick tube a tight fit. Its possible ford gave you the wrong O-ring.

If you can take it out and find a bigger one that is oil resistant.

Hello there, would you have any photos of where the vent tube runs? I have had 2 different mechanics tell me my vent tube is clogged and my hot transmission fluid is finding the path of least resistance instead of venting out, just looking on how to clean out the vent myself if I can, just can't find any photos of the part.
Any help is appreciated
