I just bought a 2003 Ford Edge 4x4 5AT with 42,000 miles. Its in really good shape. It was used for towing, but it didnt seem to be excessive. The only down side to it is the tranmission fluid has a slightly burnt smell to it, and I would like to do something about it soon. I have heard a full flush is $500+ but a fluid change would be way cheaper. Also some say transmission flushes are a bad thing to do. Any reccomendations?

 

they say if it isn't broke don't fix it an this is very true with transmissions . it might not every work the same after you do it

 

Well I know I at least want the fluid replaced, because of it smelling a little burnt. I bought it at a Subie dealership, but I think it would be best to bring it to a Ford dealership I suppose.

 

Just change the fluid, it won't hurt it. Then you'll get to see all the scary stuff stuck to the drain plug.

 

Ford dealership was $190 for a pan drop, filter change, and new fliud.

Subaru dealership where I bought it was $115 for pan drop, filter change, and new fliud...

As I am not familiar with this, can someone tell me what the approx pirce would be for dropping the pan, replacing the filter, and adding new fluid?

 

My ford dealership refuses to drop tranny pans. Only a flush. They say you never need to replace the filter. This worries me. Where should I go - a tranny shop?

 

do it yourself......cheaper......it isn't that hard......

i would recommend following this procedure and doing the flush.....it can be done yourself.....i have done it numerous times....

an exchange where i work is either 100 or 150 bucks. i get that and radiator mixed up. hook you up to the machine replaces old fluid with new. takes about ten or fifteen minutes. never had a full on flush wanted by anyone.
