Transmission or other??

I have 98 xlt off road ranger. It has about 120k miles on it. I'm new to rangers, but I have a weird noise coming out of the transmission, or appears to be the transmission. Alright, so the gears shift smoothly and the clutch appears good, but when you drive it you can hear a roaring noise. It's happens in all gears and if you press the clutch down it goes away. Would it be a u- joint, which i greased them all? Trans? Please let me know your suggestions.

Check the fluid level. Many trannys die from no fluid (usually a bad rear seal or shift rail plugs).

Drain and refill with synthetic ATF.

I'm one of those people. I killed mine but it took a few days of NO FLUID to kill it. And it shifted perfectly fine then one day it just went BOOM on the highway and i lost all gears. lol

I checked the fluid level and its fine. I called the previous owner and he said the transmission did that the past 4 years he owned it. But he put about 6k miles on it in 4 years, which is nothing. Im kinda puzzled. Would a universal make that noise?? It runs fine though, for now.
