I flushed my tanny today, and changed the filter. I only use Mercon V, non of the multi-purpose (Dex & Mercon) ATFs. I have heard good things about the Valvoline full synthetic Mercon V, and it looks like all of Valvoline's Mercon V are full synthetic. You can see from these photos, that the Valvoline Mercon V (not labeled full synthetic) is the same part number as the Valvoline Mercon V which is (labeled "Full Synthetic). The last time I flushed my tranny, I used Castrol Mercon V, which is a synthetic blend, just like Motorcraft Mercon V:

 

Any trans fluid that meets Mercon V standards is Synthetic I believe.

I use Valvoline in my trans missions too.

 

Castrol and Motorcraft Mercon V are synthetic blend.

 

My transmission is full of fresh new Valvoline Mercon V also!

 

I flushed 4 gallons through, and dropped the pan to change the filter before putting the last gallon in.

 

4 gallons? wow...

 

how many quarts did that take?

 

YUP, I want to make sure the ATF in the torque converter is changed.....

 

I have to say, I have no idea. I did it the lazy way... "Hey can you guys flush the tranny too?" lol.
I was over-due on the oil change so I took it to valvoline, had them replace the ATF too. Just pump old stuff out, and new stuff in while running. No filter replacement. Meh. Better than nothing and atleast it replaces all the old stuff.

 

yeah, im cheap, ill **** around all day trying to do it all myself. lol

 

I considered using the same trick at home. Disconnect lines and use one bucket of clean ATF, and let it run sucking the new stuff up, and the old stuff into another bucket.
But after months, I never did it, so...

 

Yeah I have done similar on the ranger. I want to put a shift kit on the F150, so I will be dropping the pan for sure.

 

What have you found for it?
I haven't looked much but came across a different valve body on a site somewhere...

 

There isn't suction on one of the lines, matter of fact ATF runs out of both lines. I mark a bucket at the 1 gallon level, and once I get 1 gallon, I connect the lines back, and refill the gallon using the dipstick tube. Like I previously said, after draining the 4th gallon, I drop the pan, replace the filter, and then replace the gallon. After pumping out a gallon, there isn't much left in the pan, even though I use a tranny catch pan.

 

I am not sure, NicksterSVT has installed them before on the 4r100s and the 4r70w, so I am leaving it to him to point me to the right one. I will let you know which one I go with. Probably one like the transgo shift kit or something to that effect.

Do you know which one our trucks have? 4r70w or 4r100? I know my 4r100 for the ranger is gonna get a new VB, seals and shift kit. Not the F150 though.

45k miles on it and I am sure the tranny has not been flushed.

 

4R75W. Just an updated version of the 4R70W I believe.
Mine just hit 38k. I bought it with 30k I think so I'm sure it hadn't been flushed.


That's right Takeda, I forgot. That's what I had heard of most people doing, using the bucket method.

 

yeah its either the 4r75w or the 4r75e, most of the shift kits for 4r70w fit on the 4r75w/e from what i have read.

 

Zach, instead of a shift kit, you should be able to change the tranny shift parameters with a tuner.....

 

shift kit = 100
tuner = 450

money talks, this is just a DD, I want to put my money in the ranger.

 

I need to call Troyer or someone today. The shift program my tuner wrote sucks.
