want to get rid of 7.5 for 8.8

I have a 1992 Ranger with the 7.5 3.73 option  I am looking for an 8.8 and was wondering what vehicle has the 8.8 that bolts in using the same leaf spring mounts. I was told a newer ranger has an 8.8 axle that would work. is this true. Sorry for stupid question. But I haven't messed with trucks in over 8 years.

i have a 92 as well, it came with the 7.5 rearend stock with some 3.73s. but i had an 8.8 put in with (well 4.56s now) 4.10. it is way worth the swap. and mine is from a 98 ranger.

any rear axle out of a 1980's-2007 ranger will work.
but i think in 93 they made the axle 1.5" wider on each side. im not sure.

he already sayed..

ANY RANGER WITH A 8.8 you can take out and put in yours, the only thing you will need is the rear fladge on the driveshaft from the 8.8 and get a new rear u-joint and put that flange on and it will bolt to the 8.8. other then that your golden. the Tag on the rear end will say if its 3.73 or 4.10 or Limited slip look for a Limited slip axle for that 5.0L... and 4.10 would give you more pep out of the hole but 3.73 with probly yeld more traction

If you swap out rear ends do you have to get your computer flashed? Sombody told me you had to and I was just wondering. Went from 3.55 to a 4.10 and it seems like it dosent go as fast.
