What gears come stock in my truck.

99 Ford ranger XLT, 2.5l 5spd? My google searches and searches on this forum have come up somewhat empty. It seems like i have 3.73 but i haven't found a certain answer. I'm sure someone on here must know.

Second question, if i do have 3.73 and want to change to a 4.10 could i just snag the rear end off another ranger that had 4.10 on it from a pull-a-part place? I'm just mulling over some summer projects and want to gauge how hard/easy/expensive this would be to do.

Thanks,
Marchy

Go out to your truck. Get under it from behind, lift up it's dress, and look at the goods. On the diff there should be an axle tag with your gears on it. It will say 7 5 and it will say either 3 55 , 3 73 , or 4 10. That is you gears. And yes you can swap in any 93-09 Ranger axle with whatever gears and it is fairly easy.

It looka like dis:

you can compare opening the door to pulling on one side of a bra for some side boob action

But thanks guys i'll go take a look and will update this thread. My truck is a dog going up hill with my newish 30x9.5 tires so i'm thinking a re-gear will help with the Washington hills.

just wanted to add my 0.02 you will most likely have to crawl under a truck @ the salvage to get the axel ratio. you might as well get used to it now and just look at the tag on the rear end. you can't always count on the door tag being correct if you did not by the truck new also if you swap axels spend the extra cash for limited slip. and you may need to get the speedometer recalaberated.
