What's my diff?

I don't have any stickers in my door jamb but I saw the following on my tag attached to the differential housing.

L73 75 2F

I just wanted to confirm (I'm probably just refusing to accept it) that this would mean I have a open 7.5″ differential with 3.73 gears.

Kinda disappointed since I thought Edge's had 4.10's

Say it ain't so!

jtslmn720 07-12-2006 06:58 PM

youve got a 3.73 limited slip 7.5 diff

anthony84_2004 07-12-2006 07:06 PM

can u tell by looking I'm pretty sure mine is an 8.8, I do know it's 3.73 gears.

buzzair 07-12-2006 07:17 PM

anthony84_2004 07-12-2006 07:20 PM

I win, (LOL)

lifted97ranger 07-12-2006 07:20 PM

most 4x2's that arn't 4.0's are the 7.5 rear end

Roach2004 07-12-2006 07:21 PM

Not on the edges most regular cabs are 8.8

bwester04 07-12-2006 08:18 PM

i'll take your 3.73 L/S if you get new gears :biglaugh:

KARPE 07-12-2006 08:20 PM

32's a 7.5 will be fine, it's when you get up there and push it hard off roading that you'd want the 31 spline rear

buzzair 07-12-2006 08:21 PM

heh, I'll keep that in mind. Maybe in like two years

TireIron 07-12-2006 08:49 PM

the ranger 8.8 and 7.5 both have the same 28-spline axle shafts (unles its an FX4 L2 rear), they are actually interchangeable. the 7.5 isn't NEARLY as weak as people make it out to be. how many failures have you seen and what failed? the only advantage the ranger 8.8 has is a larger ring and pinion and a larger carrier, and I've seen carriers break on both 7.5s and 8.8s

bwester04 07-12-2006 08:51 PM

I need to find me some 3.73 LS gears.. If I had the right tools and knowledge i'd swap to an explorer axle with the disc brakes and everything

jtslmn720 07-12-2006 10:00 PM

yea christian has proven that the 7.5, 32's and offroading arent good at all lol...

buell1238 07-13-2006 08:26 PM

i have a 7.5 and i run the **** out of it i go climbing and mudding all the time and it holds up fine it has held up better then the 12 bolt i had in my chevy i blow two of them in a month and it only had 33

emericax21 07-15-2006 12:27 AM
