1998 extended cab ranger $1000 - MO

Would it be worth buying if I had to do transmission work? This guy has come down $1000 dollars off his asking price.

It would be a good candidate for a powertrain swap

A standard swap would be great, would it be best just to find a donor car or order remanufactured parts? But if I were to get a rebuilt automatic would it be cheaper than having it rebuilt?
