Lots of knowledge and love for the Ranger on this board. It's great! My 1998 Splash is starting to show her age in the Florida sun and I have some clear coat lift off around the 3rd brake light and the passenger fender flare. without doing a complete repaint of the truck, can it just be re-clear coated?

i dont know......i would think that a body shop could wet sand the clear down to the paint and then re-clear it without any problems......but i am no body shop man....

I think that should work. Is the finish faded at all or is the clear just flaking off?

It's hard to determine for me exactly. There is really no flaking just a general fade happening. Rewind this about 8 years ago, the 3rd brake light burned out and I took it to Ford since it was under warranty. Some idiot must have used a flat blade screw driver, and left a 1/2 inch scratch on the roof that they didn't tell me about. Before I left, I checked the repair and noticed the scratch. They had me take it to their body shop and appeared to do a good job. I noticed it starting to fade in the past year.

I am guessing there is some paint fade, but mostly clear coat wearing off.

Estimate received today, $374 for the roof and another $200 for the front bumper - stone chips.

yea more then likely you would need to wet sand the truck...shoot a thin coat of paint over it and the clear just to make sure...

Yeah, I didn't think the $374 was unreasonable...
