Ok so I ordered a lund bug deflector for my 2000 ranger XLT, and there were 4 options for rangers, 93-2000 i believe had 2 options, one for XLT/EDGE and one for the others, same with the 2001-2008 had the same options. So i ordered the one for the XLT and it comes, doesnt fit the holes are about an inch and a half away..... so my question is do i get the normal one, not for edge or xlt, or did they change the hood half way through the year? should i get the 2001 for the xlt?

 

hmm. thats a good question. rwenzing or griggs will know. they seem to be the most knowledgeable guys on here (no disrespect to anybody else). shoot one of them a PM.

 

98-00 2wd and 4x4 hoods are the same (aluminum). 01-03 Edge/4x4 hoods are the "powerdome" style (fiberglass). 98-03 XLT 2wd hoods are the same (aluminum) 04+ hoods regardless of trim are the same, "powerdome" style (fiberglass). They may be refering to the model year change for 2001 when Ford started using the fiberglass powerdome hood.

so in other words, if you have a 2wd, make sure you get one specified for 98-03 XLT 2wd if at all possible.

 

And they are interchangeable. I traded my mongo-heavy, high, view restricting 2002 Edge hood for a nice, low, lightweight 2000 aluminum hood.

The only difference is the fit around the grill but I can live with it. The Edge hood looks perfect on the 2000, but the 2000 hood leaves a slight gap on the Edge.

But the front edge of the hood is what affects you. All the 1998 to 2000 hoods are the same from what I've seen. You must have received the wrong part.
