btm757 10-24-2009 06:07 PM

Did he do the lip on the lens as well

Lazler 10-24-2009 06:14 PM

yes sir.. u tape off the clear lens inside then tape of the chrome u want to keep and scuff it a bit then hit it with some krylon fusion

btm757 10-24-2009 06:18 PM

Gotcha... Also What is the best stuff to seal it back up with Clear Silicone or Black Silicone or Black RTV.... I guess i will ask our guy in parts to get me some 06+ corners

And to get them apart oven at what temp for how long?

Lazler 10-24-2009 06:22 PM

haven't done it yet so no idea but shane or anyone like him will know

Fx4wannabe01 10-24-2009 06:34 PM

wasn't this covered yesterday? lol. same stuff as the headlights, clear bathroom silocone. someone mentioned on the corners, black rtv works well, but can be a pain to work with. If you go too big of a bead of silocone in the groove, it can bleed over and into the part of the lense that you can see. 205 was much too hot for me an 06 corners...my driverside corner is a little bowed even though it was my 4th set of baked corners. lol......195 is perfect for about 8 minutes, then I pull em out the oven and see how elastic the glue is. if still really stiff, another 3 mins or so. keep on goin til you can pry one side out...you'll hear and feel a nice distinct skreeeech sound as it comes. I don't recall which part of the lense is easiest to pop out first. I use a small flat head screw driver in one bare hand, and an oven mit holding the lense in the other. Usually one side comes off first, then you'll need a couple more minutes to release the rest of the glue. I like to remove ALL glue from both halves before turning the oven off. May have to throw it in to continue to remove it all. One corner at a time, watch oven like a hawk. '06 corners lenses don't like to be 'bent' back into shape after they're bowed....something about the differing heating qualities of the reflector and the smooth thin plastic.

yeah...using your imagination and masking...it's a PAIN to get perfect. Mine are perfect. YAY! Guess who gave SVT01RANGER the idea....hmmm.... hehehe.

Alright thanks... Did you use a razor blade and cut little strips for the chrome reflector part??

Also is the one in the back of that one pic a nightshaded orange reflector???

Fx4wannabe01 10-24-2009 07:20 PM

I tried laying down masking tape then xacto knifing my lines....turned out horrible. Good thing I had plenty of amber corners to play with. Headed over to the autobody supply store and got the thin thin masking tape. That's one piece wrapped around.

If you mess-up on the 'base' that has the chrome, the amber corners and 06+ corners all have the same backing piece. One of my corner backs on the truck are from an amber corner.

And yeah, niteshaded. Looks like ass ontop of all black IMO. But looks kickass ontop of black and chrome 'indent'.

btm757 10-24-2009 07:22 PM

Thats what im sayin how did you go about nightshading the reflector??

Masked the clear around the reflector on the backside, sprayed two very light coats of shade on the reflector on the backside. Called it good.

I take it that pic does not have a chrome indent

Fx4wannabe01 10-24-2009 07:39 PM

no. I don't have a pic. That spare black/chrome indent backing is now all black and on my brothers truck. lol.

MothMan999 10-24-2009 07:54 PM

I tried to this yesterday and failed so bad lol. I cracked both lenses and it didnt seal up rite and it looks really weird and im not sure im going to put them on my truck now. i think im goin to night shade them to hide my screw up.

btm757 10-24-2009 08:03 PM

Yeah im gonna be a little reluctant to do this... But gotta bite the bullet and git-r-done

Fx4wannabe01 10-24-2009 08:04 PM

Play with stock ambers to get the hang of it. Plus you can start your painting on the chrome. Sucks ruining 06+'s cuz their so expensive and kinda hard to come by.

BTW....heating aftermarkets....SUCK!!!

Also, I HIGHLY SUGGEST spraying Duplicolor Adhesion Promoter before you spray your color. I've not had any paint peeling issues using that method. Some peoples painted corners peel where the bulb holder twists into the housing(pics show that above as well as a much larger issue. lol)

MothMan999 10-24-2009 08:15 PM

I just scuffed them with a red scotchbrite pad and that seemed to work pretty good. Shane are those pics of after the night shade?

Fx4wannabe01 10-24-2009 08:20 PM

Pics I just posted are what it could look like if you don't pay attention to the oven. That's all black back, black lense ring, and stock amber reflector.

Only niteshade pics I've posted here is the full truck pic and the one where you can see the shaded one in the background.

MothMan999 10-24-2009 08:28 PM

O ok i thought those looked a little warped lol. How did they look nightshaded?

btm757 10-24-2009 08:43 PM

Alright. So the Adhesion promoter as well as use krylon fusion??

And yeah the ones i was gonna use were gonna be aftermarket 06+ made by either TYC or DEPO i can prolly get em for less than 60 cause thats what my 06+ tails cost me.

Also would i be able to use a heat gun to separate the lens??

btm757 10-24-2009 08:45 PM

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/u...B/P7070072.jpg

Its in the background of this pic

Lazler 10-24-2009 08:45 PM

howells used a heat gun to melt his corners/headlights

SVT01RANGER 10-24-2009 08:46 PM
