2001 mustang gt air scoop

ok, i know a few of you have done this. i picked up a air scoop to put on my 2003 power dome hood. i went to maaco to see what it would cost to have it paint matched and they said $125. i paid $15 for it at the junkyard. i dont think $125 is a good price, but i could be wrong, what do you guys think?

That sounds awful high to paint that little thing. I've never had anything painted but heard that sonic blue paint is expensive.

Can't wait to see it on the truck. Should be cool.

i thought it was high, i was thinking more like 60-80 bucks. maybe i should sand it down and primer it and take it back up there, or at least go get it price checked somewhere else.

Some shops around where I live will refuse to paint something that you did the prep work on. They don't want to be held responsible for a bad paintjob if it was prepped badly.

But it wouldn't hurt to try

Do you know anybody that has a nice spray gun? Buying the paint wouldn't be bad

I'd be nervous about rattle canning that.

I just don't think I could do it, everytime I spray paint anything I screw it up. But practice makes perfect I guess

You can't just spray it on there and go. You need multiple coats, wetsanding in between, clear application, compound and polish. It takes a lot of work but you can get great results out of it.

I should try that, I get really impatient sometimes, but this would save me money

i hated my flat hood personally and didnt like the aftermarket 3rd gen hoods. and it gave it that little bit better look that i wanted so honestly who cares. if you dont like it good it wasnt your truck... and Trent to add to yours mine was 2.3L ya no point making functional

true, it's not my truck. it's just those non functional ones get grouped together as those "stick on ones from pepboys"

i'm not saying all stick on ones that are non functional that are on rangers suck. all cars that have them do. mustangs with scoops in question, dodge rams from the early y2ks. hell a kia offered one that looke like a subi. it was huge....and not being used for what it's designed for. scoops on a torino, cuda, gto, trans am, etc.... those are are bad ***. the kia, deffinately not.

OP, be original and go that extra step and do the "ram air" mod.
