Argh...Need Tire Info
 

My truck's tires have over 51,000 miles on them and they are the original tires. I hydroplaned one day in a turn but recovered. Today I drove through some runoff water in a turn and all four wheels hydroplaned and I almost did a 360 before the axle hopped and I was able to regain control before slamming into things.

This being said, I'm planning on biting the bullet and installing 4 new tires. I want tires to do the following things: drive well on sand (with lowered PSI of course) but also perform well for regular road driving. I have no intention of lifting my truck at any point in time, so they would need to fit on my cast Edge wheels (same as N3ELZ). Anyways, this post is seeking suggestions, so please suggest away :)

honistly then agian this is apples to oranges...i had COOPER STT's and they where getting bald started hidro plaining everywhere. when and got myself a set of BFG a/t's man holy crap what a nice difference nice read manners, great in rain. I have well over 25000 miles on them and they where new with i beleave 16/32 of thread and there now at 13/32 so there isnt bad wearing at all honistly its great! probly get like 65000 out of them easy

being your in NC you probly still get snow man these tires are just KICK ASS in snow i love them my 2wd L/S truck goes anywhere i want it too.

A size of 31x10.5x15 would be great no extra strain really on the truck bearly notice gas millage decrease and your ride quality will HIGHLY improve you would be suprised.

31x10.5x15 BFG A/T's as have already been covered is the best option for what you are looking to do with the stock wheels

How much do these generally cost? I presume I'll need to swap the spare over as well, or just leave the el-basic tire already on there.

acully i think you can fit a 31' under there and FYI when like a LEVEL II truck which is 31 stock they dont even come with a 31 spare sad but true... acully check your spare i have heard of people having 15" on there truck and having a 16" spare lol..honistly

I think it depends on the acutal size of the tire....

A 31 is not always exactly 31.0" tall... it could bee as small as 30.5" or as tall as 31.4"...uh mathematically, of course.

Go to www.summitracing.com or www.tirepackage.com to see which ahas the better deal.

You may want to check your local dealers, but you probably won't get a good price.

I got some Dean Wildcat A/Ts ($107 each mounted/balanced)... I met a guy at Lowes (I work there) that had 95,000 miles on them, and he towed hundreds of pounds of tile everyday. They work really great in dry sand, but wet, foamy sand....forget it. My friend's BFGs did the same thing.

Most all-terrain tires are same... EXCEPT the Super Swamper STS, which is cheaper than the BFG.

Im gonna probably get hated on for this, but get the Pro-Comp A/Ts. 0,000 warranty(which basically means they are gonna last longer than 50k. My friend got 73k out of a set on his 94 Ram 1500 so imagine...we are alot lighter so they will last for some time!), good looks, hella BA grip on anything you can toss at em, and they are tuff as steel. The ride like a pillow and can be aired down nicely. I like the BFG's as well, but after experiencing the PC A/Ts on my buddys ranger, they are totally going to be the next set of A/T's that Im gonna get.

Whatever the brand/model of tire, I would stay away from using Load Range 'E' tires on a Ranger. LR 'E' tires are designed for larger trucks that carry much more weight than a Ranger ever will. The sidewalls are very stiff and the ride quality is usually harsh. Even LR 'D' is more tire than a Ranger needs.

My truck came from the factory with BFG A/T 31x10.50R15 Load Range 'C' tires and they are a great do-all choice. They should work well on your Edge with no issues other than a small increase in road noise and minor speedometer error.

^ I agree. I have LR D's right now and they are OK. Not good not bad. But I could deffinatly tell the difference between the LR D and the LR C's that I had before...much stiffer!

Most rangers came with P metric... 4ply rated tires... even the 4x4's

The fx4 level 2 came with load range C.. which is good..

D and E are way too stiff. I have E's on my truck and the ride is very bad compared to my p-metric toyos.

I would get C's because you have more tread vs p-metric rated.
something like 17/32-18/32 vs 12/32or 13/32 for p-metric.

I have LR C's on my truck and they are pretty smooth riding.

How 'bout them prices?

Well, just got some 30" BFG All Terrains put on the truck. 31" tires were cutting it too close for my need, and I can still use my spare tire without too much difficulty. The only major off roading these will get will be on the sands of the East Coast, so no major worries.

air down for the deep stuff, if you got an air compressor... that stuff will kick a 2wd truck's ass.

it did mine thursday, but maybe its because of my tire's straight tread.
