but the actual light is not painted just around it, on the inside. That should not be a problem should it?

I tried to do this mod but gave up and ordered a set off the net. I got my stockers apart but my masking tape kept ripping the fake chrome off. I figured even if i did get it painted the missing chrome in the reflectors would bug me so I just ordered some black ones. They haven't shown up, I hope they don't leak.

Do it! just make sure to use some not very sticky masking tape so you dont peel up the chrome

Their was a thread a while back that had a blue and red truck with matching headlights...
When I did mine i used the blue masking tape and no chrome came off.. Easy mod to do took me about an hour to do it all...

Don't be nervous to put them in the oven, just keep an eye on them and you'll be fine... The warmer they are, the easier they come apart....

I think I used the satin black from krylon..

Krylon works, get the krylon fusion - it doesnt take any sanding to prep or anything.. since it is a sealed enviroment, you dont need clearcoat or anything over it... two or three coats to even it out once its prepped is good
