did the headlight mod

well guys i finally got the guts to bake my headlights. one came out great and the other was fine untill i got a little overspray on the chrome part of the projector. i decided to dab a little paint thinner on it with a cotton swab and would you know...it took the chrome off!!!! so now i have a nice size white spot on my projector. i tried that chrome paint and it looks silver. i guess its not THAT bad but since i know its there....its gunna bother me! ill have pic tomorrow in the day light .

sux man, my advice is to find some of that stick on chrome paper at AutoZone or Pepboys and just lay it over the silver spot. It won't be perfect, but it will look better than the silver and probably be less noticable.

But glad to hear you had the ***** to bake your headlights, cause I sure don't.

I know it's too late now but isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip will remove fresh overspray without damaging the reflector.

Taking apart your headlights after placing them in the oven so that the glue melts. After that you tape down the parts you don't want painted, spray primer, paint, and then glue it back up together.

It is a fairly advanced mod that changes the appearance of the factory headlights.

cool, nice to see some more people with the ballz to do this! I had chrome peal off on mine too when i removed the tape.. i should have used automotive tape instead of just normal masking tape! mine is barelly noticable tho.

Jay: Looks Good
Bob: Looks great, is that the 06 corners with the small reflector? I like that much more than the non reflector version I bought from EBay & I'm sure a bunch more legal as well. I would like to get a set of those & split/paint them. Also might get a set of 06 rears. This might sound stupid but I want to crack open a set of rears & even though you can't see the shiney reflective backing much I want to paint them black in hopes it will darken the light up some without spraying tint on the exterior of the lens.

I'm gonna be paranoid about doing theheadlight mod when it comes time...I think I might buy an extra set of headlights...and if all goes well...just sell them.....

Yes, those are the 2006~7 corners. IMO, if you paint the reflectors, the overall effect looks better with the inside rim of the lens painted black, too. If the rim isn't painted, it creates a whitish halo effect that isn't present in the modded headlights. The black rim also hides the glue in the trough after reassembly.

I also have the 06/07 tails and like them. Personally, I would be reluctant to paint the rear reflectors for safety reasons.

OK, yea, what I meant on the reflector is the outside yellow/orange reflector thats required here. As far as the rears I would do like my fronts, just the reflector(round part) left unpainted & paint all the rest of the chrome/silver backing.
