i would love a basket but i don't have the money for one. if i did a basket i would do one on the roof of my truck. i can get the explorer roof rack for free i just have no idea how i would attach it to the cap. or if the cross bars are tall enough to clear the cab.
I got my basket for $160, and it even has the extension. Keep an eye out on Craigslist and Ebay, they are out there, just be patient, and it's worth the wait.
i think your right im going to do that because i only use my cap during camping and stuff and i can still put my kayaks on there and if i get one the right size i can use it on both the roof of the truck and the cap. just need 2 sets of mounting hardware.
to mount the rack I drilled threw the cap to the other side. then made 4x8 ish plates to help transfer the load inside. made a 2" riser that was drilled and tapped the lower bolts went into one set of holes up top then drilled on top 2 more holes and tapped blind drilled all of them btw. that way no water transfer. sealed with closed cell foam
^^ alright thanks stone. do you know how i could mount the rack on my truck since i dont have the 4 doors?
What does having 4 doors have to do with mounting a cab in the bed?

Just depends on the rack and the cap, all I had to do was drill holes in my cap and then used the bottom mounts that usually go under the load bars on a regular roof rack on the inside of the cap, and ran the bolts through. Like this:
Stone do you have pictures of yours? IDK if i have pics the cap is LONG gone but I still have the rack. |
i want to get a cap like that, but have a stepside so everything pre made is to wide.

few things I wanted the rack to sit up off the roof a little thus the risers, your rack and mine are the same. same brackets even ish. I made the lower plates inside to help even out the stress of it because it had a tire and everything else on it.
IDK if i have pics the cap is LONG gone but I still have the rack. |
