I have a 95 Ranger and the problem that I seem to have is that whenever it rains (much like last night for the North East) it leaks. Now on the outside i have noticed it beginning to crack around the back corner edges on the top of the cap.. Ive also noticed it's clear coat is beginning to flake in certain areas so its time I pay attention to it and either fix it or my other option (project) is ditch the cap (its been on there since the truck was new) and clean the bed out and get a good liner (need advice if im gonna do that) and maybe lift the truck about 8" or so (if its not too hard on the truck and me)

The inside of the cap is carpeted and it looks to be very tough to try and pull that out, so would it be worth it to get the cap sanded down and "patched" in multiple corners and on the top (for small cracks,etc..) and then get it repainted to match my truck ? (hunter green with 12 years of aging on her )

Thoughts/advice.. (if i could post a picture I would, but it says I cant)

alright heres a link to some webspace I have available.. Also i do think that my first estimate of 8" is pretty high.. but if i do take the cap off and do a nice bed liner i want to get it a little higher.. The one thing i have to figure out if i decide to ditch the cap is how to transport my model planes (I fly models and i love the space in the back of the truck as it is now)


one of the photos you can see that i put a dab of silicon on a few cracks (as a recommendation by a friend) and it really doenst seem to work

From the pictures, i say sell it on craigslist... and buy a fiberglass bed cover... just a flat one... it locks, and you can still store your planes in there...

that is probably what i would do (do you think i could really get something for it on CL?)... the problem is when i get a bed cover, can i match the color to the truck or should i just go with black? But also would I be able to remove that bed cover if i wanted the full-functionality of a truck and put things like my dirtbike or lawn mower in it?

Assuming this is what im gonna do over the next few months, what kind of a liner for the bed would you suggest is best and would be durable, etc..

 

Dont get a liner... Get it lined with either a do it yourself liner or a rhino / line x...

If your wanting to remove it then i wouldnt get a fiberglass i would get a soft bed cover...

cool. I was gonna ask you about the bed liners and what you thought of Rhino liner. If i took it to somewhere to get that done how much would it (aprox) go for? I guess the cap idea is that i'll be getting rid of it. so i guess these questions will become future threads..
