honestly....i've ran with my valence JUST being held on by the factory snap thingys on the 'ears'.
put the pieces on the valence, i like to pop the valence in the bumper one side at a time, then running the 8 bolts or whatever. factory, the bolts are like 8mm x 1.25 or someting....id probably be cheaper to get those Jnuts or whatever they're called in 1/4" and use 1/4x1 bolts.
the ears sorta snap into place with a gentle punch of the fist.
Here's a view of the inside installed on the bumper...
Here's a better close up of them..this time the side that has all four.
Ooh, good pics. I see now what the clips I have are lacking. That little tab w/ a bend that secures it once popped into the slots of the bumper. I'm going to have to find that kind or it won't stay I bet. Besides those, i'm fairly sure the rest of my hardware will transfer. The valance is attached to the bumper by speed nuts from what I could see. And there are corner reinforcements. All that (hopefully) will bolt right up.
I could probably get part numbers from my local ford hook up on those 'ear' clips on each side of the valence.
Any hardware store would carry something like those u-nuts....factory on the trucks is metric 8 x 1.25? i believe. it's fine thread. BUT...it'd be ALOT cheaper to go a standard size from the hardware store. They need to be 'long reach' u-nuts to clip onto the metal bumper. The bolts that go into them are the same bolts for your hood, your fender mounting bolts, under the plastic at hte knee pad that holds the sheet metal thing under the steering column...those bolts. gold in color. I could probably get part number for those and the bolts too.
I have a part # for those clips, my dad said they come in either 4 packs or 8 packs any way...... W704021-S424
I've been trying the part # on some Ford part sites and it's not found. I even tried to search it in Google and got nothing. Do you know if it can be found anywhere online?
FYI I FOUND THE PART NUMBER AT FORD FOR THE CLIPS IS INCORRECT. IT GETS YOU A BOLT. NO ONE AT FORD SEEMS TO KNOW HOW NOR CARES TO CORRECT IT. I FINALLY WENT TO A COMPANY "FASTENALL" AND PURCHASED A BOX OF CLIPS "BUMPER GRILL" CLIPS FOR A DODGE. THEY ARE A LITTLE THICK, BUT WITH A TAP IF A HAMMER, THEY FIT. ANYBODY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR THE EASIEST WAY TO REPLACE THE WHOLE VALANCE? MINE WAS BROKEN UP AND I PRCHASED A REPLACEMENT AT LMC TRUCK FOR $78.
Hi My truck had no valence at all when the stork brought her by - I foresee hours at the hardware store when the valence arrives. Isn’t there an exploded service diagram like the ones we use to fix lawn mowers? (Old-a thread, hate to see it go unresolved)
I ordered a replacement Valence and lights package and expected to spend the majority of the project Time searching for fasteners for the lighting assemblies and valence clips.
As I’m no mechanic, expecting other noob to face the same issue.
1) get the valence you need. Lights or no lights. Parts stores seem to care a lot about the bed step or styleside. seems no difference... fog lights or no, that is the question (for 99 specific)
2). The clips are apparently there to just finally secure an otherwise tight assembly.
3). Install the light assemblies first if necessary. Obviously... later models and some helpful A1 videos show the driving lights attached to the valence. Mine were attached to the body.
4). Go to your hardware store and get m6 x 1” hex and clips. Just get s as handful but I ended up using six for the lights and only one for the valence
5). The valence required lots of effort, stretching, pulling and pushing. I’ve never done this before so I don’t know if it was the cold day, cheap parts, or subtle damage.
if you don’t have clips, wire ties are fine. The snaps hold this tight
After researching this forum thread and eBay sleuthing (after LMC truck said I was SOL...) I picked these up today at my local dealership parts counter. part# W714030-S424 , $3 each clip. Shown here with the old clip, not exact same but close enough!
