FX4 fender flares on an 01 Edge

i just noticed that the clearcoat on my 01 edge 4x4 fender flares is starting to bubble and looks like it will be peeling off shortly. i was wondering if the flat black fender flares from an Fx4 would fit? or are the body lines between the two trucks different?

or along the same lines are there any replacement fender flares for the 01+ rangers?

all 98-05 flares are interchangeable. So yes, a 02-05 fx4 or even 01-05 xlt flare would bolt right up. But why do that when you can just scuff yours now and paint them with bedliner!? Add texture and the perfect shene.....Duplicolor Truck Bed Coating in a rattle can is what I used on my flares and valence and it's perfect.

06+ flares mount on a larger diameter circle on the fender. So those are no-go unless you use double side sticky foam tape to attach them to the body.

Aren't the fx4 ones thinner? The edge ones stick out pretty far and from what I remember the fx4 don't seem to stick out as far? Could be wrong though

Also I like the look of the bolt holes in the newer ones.. Even though I'm pretty sure they're not functional... Or are they?

And are there any other brands other than bushwacker that makes them or is bushwacker the best aftermarket fender flares?

they are fake, no use at all except ascetic.
I dont know if bushwacker makes them for Ford, but I have a set that are Ford OEM that look like bushwackers.
they are from an 04 and they will fit on my 99.

Was it only the fx4 that have the faux bolt holes or do the xlt ones have them too?

Only 06+ Rangers got the flares. They came on Sports, FX4s and I think thats it as I've never seen them on an XLT. They're hard to come buy and almost $80 a pop from discount Ford dealers. Thats how I got my 06+ flares.

He was mistaken. Here is an 04 FX4.

05's were the same. In 06 they went through and updated the Ranger. It got the plastic bumper covers, 06 Mirrors, tails, emblems, and the new flares with the fake screws.

01-05 flares are all the same flare. The finish are what are different(textured or smooth and painted). Cam on Edge, most XLT 4x4's, ALL Fx4's.

06+ flares are all the same flares. The finish are what are different. Only came on Sports and Fx4 package rangers. Normal XLT's lost flares all together starting in 06.

Be sure to post pics when they're installed!!

to me, that looks really good, he even did what I had planned on doing by putting a rubber gasket around the upper edge to keep it from rubbing (at least, that was my reasoning)
I dont have a lifted ranger though, its actually lowered in the front an inch, but I do have over wide/sized tires that sit a hair out from even with the top of the fender.

thanks for the pic, now Im definitely going to put them on, after I paint them black.

Here's Fx2.3's old truck.... had a 2/3" drop and flares. It actually used to be lifted like 4", then he lowered it down, that's why it's got flares...

Unfortunately, it's about as good as I can get with giving you lowered styleside w/ flares...I can't seem to think of anyone who got colormatched flares and being lowered.

IMO....i think flares are ugly. I've hated mine since day 1. IMO, they don't belong on anything lowered that's NOT a dually...

I like the looks, it kind of adds a "widebody" look to the truck, making it more sporty looking.

IMHO… keep the EDGE Flares and refinish, BUT not in Bed Liner, keep them color matched to the truck.
If the paint is in good condition then just refinish the clear coat.
if you feel not up to it have the work done by a good autobody shop, one day turn around at a good shop.

I for one think the EDGE Flares are better looking, not so tall but add the necessary width for 12.5 tires and they match the front.

I haven’t put them back on my flareside yet but I will be soon enough.
