Portland/Vancouver - Looking for a place to get a truck box built.
Sick of trying to find the "good deals" on truck boxes on craigslist - Most vendors only carry crappy soddy aluminum boxes with clamps that wont even hold the lid down.. a good bump woudl pop it open... Does anyone around this area know of a shop that can build a good solid steel/diamond plate box? Delta has stopped producing Ranger sized boxes, same with DeeZee; so I am up a creek trying to find a good quality box, and I -need- it to be secure.. I've been hauling all my recovery gear and emergency stuff in the back of my extended cab.. would love to get my seats put back in for when I carry extra passengers back there.
Thanks ahead of time too!! I've been searching all over, but the boxes I have been interested in always turn out to have faulty locks and/or much too dented up.. I dont mind refinishing.. as I will be bed-coating the box before I put it in.

hey fellow washingtonian! yeah i think if you look for a pro tech, those are really nice, my dad has one in his work truck, not a single piece of flimsy alum. on it. as far as custom boxes i dont know. but husky also make pretty tough ones i think. but ive never owned one. if you cant find anything look for a free canopy. they are nice for hauling crap around. when i go fishing i can just throw everything in the back and close it.

Yeah, I have a canopy out back.. but it honestly looks like a piece of **** -laughs- Going to be giving it away for free, Really is a beater, good for hunting trips and whatnot... I woudl rather have a color matched locking one with a permanent mount on the bed for security.. and to guarantee it wouldn't slip off during my frequent mountain trips =)
I'll dive around and look at the ProTech ones, maybe Shane can pipe up on where a good ProTech vendor is in the area; if I go that route, I would get a box first.. then get one of there nice headache racks ordered up =)
EDIT:
Took a look around at the Delta Pro steel boxes - think I will go ahead and order this one up soon as the funds are available...

Nice and strong, and I like the good steel boxes over any aluminum ones :-)

I have a "better built" box on mine, technically its too large for it but were talking one inch on either side outside of spec.
It is a top of the line box, and probably stronger than my truck is. Very sturdy, lockable, and a LOT of storage space.
Better Built® Product - Gullwing Truck Toolbox
I swear by mine, and the mounting kit is very strong. Nobody is gonna get this thing off your rig without some serious work. I will add some pics in next 24 hours or so.

You've seen my Delta Champion Deep Compact box....ran be 380ish brand new...didn't have to deal with shipping because I had it placed on a stock order through a local farm supply store.
No clue what you are talking about with this 'one bump and the lid flys open'...never had that issue with any of my 3 past boxes, or my brothers, or my friends boxes. And I havn't even touched the strikers.

oh, its the extra cheap ones you find at like GI Joes and junk.. went there to catch one they had on sale.. would have taken some major modding.. thing was using some thin Aluminum too.. felt like a toy! Yours is a good one though, sucks it has that little dent in it from taking the weight on top... you ever get that bent out just a teeny bit yet?
