Post Hood Compatibility Between Model Years

I need a new hood for my 2010. I have been looking at junkyards online and researching in forums like this one, but am learning that there are subtle variations depending on the grill configuration and even the hinges? When searching the junkyards it is unlikely that I will find my exact model year, so what years are compatible with the 2010? I can’t find a simple guide anywhere. Are there any other considerations that I need to know or think about before I tackle this? I have read up and watched videos on switching a hood and it seems doable.

06-11 should be a pretty safe bet

98-11 Rangers had three different hood designs. All will interchange, BUT you also need to swap in the matching Radiator support and Header panel, which isn't hard but probably more than most want to do (drilling out spot welds). You will also need a grille from the same years, of which there were multiple options per year/model. Some will interchange without the radiator support change, but may leave space between the hood and grille. The years break down as follows:

98-00 flat hood
01-03 high "Power Dome" hood was offered on some models.
04-11 look similar to power dome

FYI hood materials vary, apparently even in the same model years: aluminum, steel or composite.
Hinges should all be the same. Fun fact: You can use 96-01 Explorer hinges (use 2 drivers side hinges) to add lift shocks.

This is extremely helpful! Where can I find pics of the differences so I know what I am looking at?

I agree- anything 2006+ should fit your 11.
Maybe the Ranger brochures will help:
