I washed my truck today and threw some meguiars spray wax on it and wiped it off and i noticed from when my dad sprayed some primer on the mustang outside and my truck was about 25ft away from it the wind took some primer and now my truck has specs of primer all along the pass side. Now how can i get this off cuz wetsanding will take the clear right off. Would rubbing compound work?

 

the only option i see is wetsanding. if you use something to take that clear coat off then your clearcoat underneath will come off as well. you could use some rubbing compound and a buffer, but be careful not to burn or go through the clearcoat underneath.

 

ill have to try like a 1000-1500 grit wetsand. I used a 600 to take the clearcoat off my mustang it doesnt take much rubbing to get the clear off cars so maybe a finer grit may do it

 

Before trying an abrasive, give Meguiars Body Scrub a shot. I've have very good luck removing paint with it.

 

If your truck was waxed before the overspray hit it, it will come off fairly easily. I would try a cleaner/wax product first, then a fine polishing compound, then a rubbing compound if you have to go that far. Personally, I would do it by hand and avoid a power buffer.

Sanding should be totally unnecessary for this problem and it is very risky.

As stated above, be very careful not to burn the paint or go through the clear if you decide to use a power buffer. That would look far worse than specks of primer.

 

got overspray on mine once, used polishing compound then clay bar, all came off then just wax it! good luck, let us know what works for you & how it comes out.

grow your nails out some, if it's little specs, get it wet, and use a nail. or if your really skilled with a razor blade, use the backside[the part that you hold]. I really don't let any of my porters touch things like this, i only trust myself.
Or get some gloves on and try some Laquer thinner, or spray some wheel acid on a rag and try to work it off the paint with that[do not be worried, niether eats clear cloat]

I use 3M polishing compound to take off any type of overspray, or paint from other vehicles, etc. it works great, good to have around for older paint too.

 

Clay bar should be your first course of action for sure as it is not harsh on the paint, and will more than likely take care of that. If that won't work, then try cleaner waxes and see where it stands.

 

I once had my Ranger in my garage and my wife had some stuff on the floor next to it that she spray painted. The paint spray spread out far enough that it got on the truck. It came right off with a paint cleaner-scratch remover. You should first try either Meguiar's "Paint Cleaner" or "Scratch-X". Or any other brand of paint cleaner or scratch remover. They are both basically the same thing. The paint cleaner is something you can apply after washing the truck and before waxing it. It gets a lot of the stuff off that washing won't. You could also try a bug and tar remover. I've had good luck with the Turtle Wax bug and tar remover.
