I am new to the site, this is probably the first of quite a few questions. Can I take the factory step bars from a 2001 Ranger ext. cab 4x4 with 4dr, and use them on a 1999 Ranger XLT 2dr? If so, what mounting kit would I use?

 

I believe you can but I'm not sure. I know that you would have to get 2 door bars and hardware because the 4 door mounting stuff is different.

 

A guy in my area is selling the bars for $25 on craigslist, I have been looking for bars for sometime and thought I had struck gold when I saw his post. Below is a link to the page. I dont know if it helps. The guy says "will not fit 2 dr ext. cabs without modification to back bracket"

Any ideas on what he is talking about?

There are 2 door AND 4 Door EXT cabs my guess is on the 2 door modle the rear mounting bracket is different.

 

Yeah. If it is made for a 4 door extended cab it will work only on one. I guess the hardware is different, all depending on how many doors, and if its extended or single cab.

 

The bars should be the same but the brackets are different. The brackets are real expensive from the dealer and I think 2 door stuff is tough to come by.
