ummmm, as an edge AND 04 you should already have the powerdome hood! I know the 04 Edges I've seen around here have it.

Yes.....There are differences with the 01-03 powerdome hoods vs. all the 04-07 hoods. All 04-07s have the same hood....as far as I know. It's a MUCH shallower "dome" on the 04-07s, or it's not as much as a dramatic height change as on the 01-03. Notice the front of your hood in relation of the grille. Notice the "bump up" in your grille. And how the hood has a "notch" for the "bump up". That my friend is the reason you cannot run a 01-03 powerdome hood. Now....You can convert your entire front end assy to 01-03 spec by swaping out the header panel, grille, and other nick nacks in order to run the 01-03 powerdome.

I was aware that they are different, and I actually like the 03 hood better. I really would like to put an 03 hood on and the 07 front bumper. However, it sounds like some work would be involved in switching hoods and since this is my DD I don't know if I want to f*ck with all that. I probably will just stick with the bumper swap and call it a day...

since you guys seem to know a whole bunch about interchangability.... could a 01-03 powerdome fit on a 99 xlt? ie, are the hinges (close) to the same and do the grill and hood lines match up?
don't mean to steal the post...

I don't remember who, but there's a white ranger that posted in this thread who has a 98-00, and he traded his hood for a 01-03 powerdome hood from The Great Mr. John Griggs. It'll go on smoothly. I'm not so sure about the hinges. I have seen 01-03 2wd xlt/xl rangers rolling with 01-03 powerdome hoods....so don't know about the hinges.

And here's a comparison of a '01 XLT 4x4 vs. a '01 XL 2wd....Best shot I could find of the two together to compare the hoods. Note: The black XL has aftermarket hood scoops on it, those are just taped on....just ignore those ugly things:

I HATE to bump a super old thread but these pictures alone prooved to be very valuable to me!!!

I just picked up (well at least tomorror) a 03' edge power dome hood for $50, I just need to get it painted white since it's blue... and the whole grill thing was throwing me off because everyone was saying I have to get the honey comb grill which I don't like at all.. LOVE tha you have the XLT grill with the power dome! Looks awesome!

I read somewhere someone said that one should look at the Edge's hood hinges to replace the XLT or normal hinges? Is this really needed since the weight of the hood is going to be on the prop rod when in the open position and when it's closed there really isn't any weight bearing down on the back hinges it's just holding it in place....

Super excited to get it and put it on!

Thanks,
-Nigel

So I put the hood on the ranger just to test fitment and all is good. I can latch it the first click but when pushing the hood down all the way it doesn't lock. I was told that I need to adjust the hood latch. Is there a how to on how to do that?

I can't tell what needs to be loosened and then moved? Is it just a couple bolts and then I can slide the hood latch up and down?

Thanks,
-Nigel

Loosen the two bolts on the hood latch and slide it up or down. It's fiddly work to get it just right; I usually use some masking tape as a guide so I know where it's original position was for reference.

Excellent thank you!

I initially removed my original hood hook and put it on the power dome, is that not needed and I can use the hood hook(hoop) on the power dome?

Thanks again! I will start fiddling with it!
