Do any of the Ranger projectors give the output you guys are talking about? I'm kind of thinking the way the housing on the truck is is what's causing the difference. Car housings tend to have more of a wrap-around shape allowing the light to escape from the sides so could it be the boxy shape of our housing is causing the limited projection pattern??

 

Marie, I think you are absolutley correct. I think it has to do with the way the housing is designed. I don't know if there is a way to make them better. I think that the low beam refractor (the piece behind the low beam light that is chrome) is either not angled, or long enough for it to actually spread and cut the beams correctly. The projector housing I think is too small. I'm just guessing here, throwing idea's around. I can tell you the projector housing's that me and monte purchased are not what I thought they were going to be. I was hopeing that the spread would have been better. But I'm going to keep looking into this.

 

maybe if someone wanted to make some cash...maybe fab up something that matches the rear part of the stock housings so anyone can custom fit their own personal taste of lights....like the hella projectors...then you have custom headlight housings that mount right up to stock locations

 

Wow those are sick. Those almost look like they would fit a Mazda too. (1998-2009) Can anyone verify this? I would LOVE a set of those.

 

Well I got a set of the black ones and put em in last week. I'm have the same problems. Low, step down cut off with my brights. Doesn't bother me too much right now, I don't use the high beams much anyways.

 

I've been looking into these lately this write up definitly helps with my decision. I was wondering if you had a pic from a distance at night of the lights with just the rings on? I really want to see what that looks like. Thanks

monterx7, what did you wind up doing to mod the wiring to let it work safely with high and lows on together?

 

i jumpered 2 wires so that the low beam didnt lose power when the high beams came on. ill have to dig around to see if i can find the wiring diagram i used. i remember it wasnt that hard to figure out once i saw the wiring for the light switch. hope this helps. ill see what i can find

 

oh ok. well i know which wires i'd need to connect but i thought you did something more complex (like replacing wiring in many places with thicker wires).

since you didn't melt anything, i won't worry tooooo much.

 

the only major re-wiring i did was for the HID's themselves. since the stock wire can not handle turning on and off and supplying juice to the HID's i just used the stock wire to trigger a relay. and took thicker wire from the battery and ran it to the relay then the HID's. hopefully this makes since. if not ill try again after work

 

no-no. that makes perfect sense that is acutally exactly what I was planning to do. i was hoping it wouldn't be necessary though, because I am lazy and don't want to have to split my wire looms to add more wire.

all i did was use the stock headlight plug. that way IF i needed/wanted to go back to stock i still had that plug
