The turkey I bought my B2300 from installed the toolbox using 3/4" #10 screws through the bottom of the toolbox directly to the top of the bed. I've got some j bolts and am ready to do it properly but I'd like to patch these holes first. Will JB Weld Quiksteel be sufficient? If I pack the hole, sand it own, and touch it up? Not much of a welder so I'd rather not do that.

 

It would last for a while but over time more than likely the jbweld will just fall out.

 

Doesn't JBWeld literally bond to the metal though? How could it fall out? Unless I'm wrong

 

Test it on a scrap peice of sheet metal... Fill in a hole as you plan to do, let it dry, sand it down and see how strong it is. The issue is it continues to harden over time. Eventually it gets hard enough that it cant take the slightest flex (which all sheet metal does) and cracks away.

 

Ask a buddy to weld 'em up for ya.

 

Or since their under the tool box ignore them... Most people bolt them with 5/16 or larger bolts with big fender washers under the nuts /rail so in an accident it doesnt become a projectile. That and its much harder to steal with actual large bolts.

 

I'm worried the water will collect and rust through it eventually. I'm not too worried about it getting stolen where I live.

 

Rtv the holes and move on with life

 

Mine has about 5 holes each side from various tool boxes over the years. Just light surface rust on the exposed edge of th eholes. leave em alone or RTV them. Cab corners, rear wheel wells, and floor will rot before those holes rot...
