Re-painting bumper/grille
Re-painting bumper/grille
Well i painted my bumper and grille over the summer and now that i look back on what i did, i should have read up about it more and put more time into it.
These are some of the mistakes i came up with...
1) Should have taken bumper and valance off before i painted it.
2) Should have added more primer.
3) Should have Wet sanded???
4) Should have added more coats of paint AND the right color white.
5) Should have clear coated it again. (Rained after i finished)
6) Should have polished/waxed it.
I don't exactly understand the purpose of wet sanding. From what i've heard you should wet sand between every step you take (besides adding more of the coat you're currently on), to make it smooth?
So what i plan on doing when it warms up is...
1) Remove bumper
2) Sand down to metal, wipe with acetone.
3) add 4-5 coats of primer
4) (wetsand?)
5) Add 5-8 coats of Oxford White
6) (wetsand?)
7) Add 5-8 coats of clear coat
8) polish/wax
9) Replace bumper
anyway, thats just whats on my mind right now. I have a couple months to think about it before it gets warm again. Opinions/suggestions would be helpful.

do the enitre bumper this time tho. it will look alot better.
as far as wet sanding i think that its just alot less harsh on the paint and it smooths it out alot better w/o taking off alot of paint

it sands down a lot finer than regular dry sanding...
its kinda like a "lube" for the sandpaper..we all know its better that way...
but the plan sounds good to me, i wish i could help ya out in person! i like painting

I'm not worried about time. I still enjoy spending a day detailing it every once in a while. I'm not going to be spending more than $10-15 in paint. I don't see any high dollar mods in my future any time soon
