Should i do any work? or let a shop handle it..

I'm talking about my roll pan. I do not think I'll be getting it molded in, instead just install it myself.

so... my question is... should i do any of the work on it? right now its bare metal (its a steel roll pan, forget who makes it though). i was wondering if it would be cheaper to maybe get it ready for paint by priming etc.. then taking it somewhere to get sprayed.. or if i should be able to do the entire thing myself (i don't have a spray gun though) ...or if i should just take it to them as-is, and let them prep it, prime it, and paint it.

my paint skills are as good as they can be without a spray gun.. i'd have no problem doing it myself, but i'm afraid of having it noticable that i painted it myself.

so... what's everyone think?

PS: molding it in was going to cost somewhere near 400 (that included painting and installing and anything else needed to be done).. so that was a little steep for what i had in mind. there's another shop i could get a quote from, but i don't like some of the guys there, so i'd rather not go there. plus the guy at the shop i'd want to take it to said he can't garuntee that it will last forever becuase its steel (and the bed is fiberglass). i mentioned what people on here have said about molding, and using certain stuff, etc.. he said he knew about all different sorts of stuff like that, but bottom line is.. he cannot say it'll last forever, because it won't want to down the road.

so that's why i figure i might as well just paint it and slap it on. molded would be nice... but it wont kill me to have it bolted on and left with seems (sp?). its a black truck, so it wouldn't be as noticible as it would with other colors.

alright, sorry for rambling on, thanks for any input guys!

Get it shaved. IMO a roll pan looks ghetto if it's just bolted in and not shaved.

ehh.. i dunno though.. there's a handful of guys on here that have them installed and not molded in, and i don't think they look bad. if it weren't so expensive, i'd do it.

if your just gonna have it painted and put on let the shop do all the painting. theres no telling what kind of interactions that may occur if you prime and they apint plus they probably wont garuntee any of the work if they dont do all of it.
so what saves you 50 bucks now could cost you 200 down the road.

i would also mold it but thats me they dont look that bad just bolted on
