Tailgate emblem

I want to remove the emblem from the tailgate on my 97 regular cab, 2wd, short bed. I have removed the plastic inner part and i found a metal pannel that only allows access to the top third or so which allows access to the latch mechanisms, but my emblem is on the lower right part of the tailgate. My front ford emblem was bolted on, is the rear one as well? Or is it adhesive? Thanks for the help.

Not bolted on...It's adhesive with alignment pins.

So fishing line or guitar string should get it off? Should i warm it up with a hair dryer or not neccesary? And also how would i reattach it?

Yes, fishing line works well....I didn't heat mine up when I replaced mine. Just use some double sided foam tape to replace it.

Yup, no bolts on the tailgate, however there will be 2 or 3 alignment holes leftover if you're planning on leaving the oval off.

Don't skimp on the foam tape, get a good outdoor rated foam that will stand up to the elements... the cheap $1 stuff will dry out and fall off in less than a year.

Check out my custom ovals too
