Tailgate wont latch

My tailgate wont latch on the drivers side, I use to be able to slam it really hard and it would but it wont any more. I would just leave it but it rattles and has even fallen down a couple times. This happened after I backed up a dirt pile flexing(look at my avatar), so I bent something. Also one of the cables when the tailgate is down is loose wile the other is tight.

So that brings me to the question, is there any way to adjust it or the latch?

lol yea I thought about that, but I would like to stay way from flexing it that much again.

I did flex it a little yesterday the other way by accident and wile it was I opened and closed the tailgate and it latched on both sides, but I cant do that every time I need to close it. lol

Where it latches on the bed should be adjustable. You just need to loosen the bolts holding the latches on and put them towards the rear of the truck a little more.

Not to hijack, but one of my cables is looser than the other. Can I adjust this too?
