I went to open my tailgate earlier and it will not open. The handle is attached fine and I can hear the mechanism inside moving as if it is unocking the tailgate, but it won't open. Anyone have this happen to them before I take the tailgate apart.

 

Take off the inspection panel and make sure both of latch rods are retracting completely. Sounds like one (or both) may be hanging out about 1/8". You can easily adjust them by poping the plastic clips around the latch rods. Just make sure (if this is the problem) you don't adjust them so they can't completely close.

 

just give it a lil push on the side thats getting stucked when u open the handle :P

 

Yea just push the tailgate in when you pull open. Should open fine.

 

lube it up with the inspection plate off, sounds like it's not fully disengaged, because it is rusty or coroded

 

Take a flat head screwdriver and push both latches out of the slots. This will allow you to drop the tail gate so opening the inspection plate is easier. You'll be able to see and understand what's not working.
