Im with the 1R22R (Infantry battalion), My job: Weapons Tech.
I first joined up as infantry, got turned down cause of my eyes..so i went in as weapons tech. then i got laser eye surgery, tried again to switch and got turned around for reasons that dont even make sence... so now i just got posted to this battalion and i might not be crawling in the mudd and shooting like i wanted but i do get to play with ALL the stuff that goes bang and this is where i wanted to go cause i got my friends here so i guess things worked out alright.


I had a vision last night for the tailgate. You all see where the actual gate swings open and close and locks into place, see how the tabs are on the inside, i could maybe grind those down, weld on some new ones that go out, and extend the gates width so i gain some width inside the box entrence... probably wouldnt be as strong anymore... i would have to use stuff thats thicker...
ahhh... too much work for something i dont need to do.

Im getting the tire this weekend, then im going to install the 4 camber adjustment bolts (since im still using the ones that came with the RCD kit and its a little off) so by the end of this week i should have it all installed.

Heck yeah! Says they normally get deliveries within 1-2 business days, They are usually open on Saturday - so lets hope it gets in around then :-D Would be kick butt for sure!! Will run down and pick it up right away if I get confirmation they have it in store.. and of course, many pics to follow =)

 

Thats pretty good, oh, when you install it if seams like the metal is twisted cause its hard to place into its spot... its normal. well mine did that. had to push on it pretty hard to fit in the screws at some locations.
Everything slides good now.

 

Yeah, was reading the how-to on it - they recommend loosening part of the frame to get the entire thing to fit in there - looks like a quick 20-30 minute install :-)


I dont have a spare for my full 33".. but I plan on getting a black steel rim + another DC Mud Country tire to mount on it down the road... cant wait!


Honestly - thanks for starting this thread too, Christian.. Have been looking for some way to mount up a spare without just tossing it in the bed - It was making me nervous going on long outings in the woods without a spare on me.

 

i was just talkin with a buddy at work last night about making one of these for my truck. you got any pics of how that tire gate is mounted to the truck?

 

Its no problem Mike, Glad to help with something.

Its real simple to install, remove the normal tail gate strap brackets. Remove tailgate, put in the circle things where your normal tail gate hinges attache. And start bolting on the metal.

I've bought stuff locally from them for a while - never had any issues..! Its where I picked up my tires, had to crate order a single one from california.. they had 3 at the shop there, arrived in 2 days - picked it up, mounted, and got it all taken care of :-)

I'll let ya all know how it goes.. I still dont have an official "full size" spare, I have my old 265/75r16 Toyo's that came with the truck.. but I may do some looking around for a mud terrain one.. not sure if I feel liek spending another $300 for a matching wheel and tire to mount on it

 

Work front this weekend....
I forgot to mention one minor problem. When you get this gate, it comes with 3 bolts and on the gate plenty of holes for different bolt spacings... well when you get a tire with rim its impossible to put the tire on, put in the bolts in the rear and then tighen everything up. so this weekend i grinded things down a little, i got my new wheel and placed it in possition and then welded the bolts into place. then i painted everything black. Its something i recomend you do. it could be in the instructions that i didnt read but if its not.. just a little idea.
As soon as i get off work tomorow, im going to try to get my wheel and tire together.

The Beast is my buddies jeep that helped me install my lift kit.. (That goes there, bolt that here... thats dumb do it like that...) lol
Jeep with 44" tires 18" wide i belive. Hel built it front scratch. hes redoing the entire thing since he got a new motor and transmision and every other thing. I dont have any pictures at the moment.

 

I need to do that with my hitchgate, its a pain to hold up a 32 untill i have it lined up

 

Tire is installed on the gate, and it looks soo sweet. its not too big to cover up the licenses plate. the back didnt drop down all that much. I still have plans to install the skyjacker softride leafs (FR36S) so it will be perfect. but its not that important its just i have my coils cranked up a little bit.
i will post some pictures tomorow, i just took some but its really dark and the pictures you cant see much. im really happy i welded on those bolts, thats for sure.
i wonder how stong my bed frame is. thats the only thing im worried about. the side where it bolts on where the lights are... its 2 bolts on each side and well it dont look too solid to me, time will tell. haha

 

HOpefully I get a call tomorrow saying I can come in and pick up my own gate :-) Just waiting on it.. hate it when I order somethign right before a weekend and have to wait the entire weekend knowing its not being processed or anything.. boo! :-) BUT, I did just install my shackles... going to be posting up a new thread in a few minutes =)

I dont have a full spare 33.. but I can jack my truck up and pop a tire off and mount it real fast when it comes in.. pain in the butt, but heck - for a picture it'll be worth it to see what itll look like with a full size matchign spare :-D

 

you should do it, b/c im really considering this it would solve 2 of my prblms

1. Minor Rust on the lower part of my tailgate
2. A spot for my spare with out taking my bed space!

 

I like it but i think im still going to go with a rat cage.. and the rat cages, they have "feet" that the frame sits into, so whenever you need your bed space, pull the pics from the feet and pull the frame out. that easy..

 

Thats the problem with the rat cage though - you still put yoru spare in the bed.. no way to have a full load along with a 33"+ spare because the spare fills the entire bed :-(

 

yes, but i think thats where my use of the truck come in handy... UNLESS we PCS somewheres where we can have my wifes horses, i wont need to use the bed really.. SO im gunna get the rat cage, and fill the rest of the bed with recovery gear and whatnot..
