underbody lights
im thinking about putting neon underbody lights on my truck and wanted to get some professional opinions...
i think it would be sah-weet. |
i think it would be cool, im doing it this summer.
get one of the LED kits, they are brighter and last longer for your truck, i say either white, blue, or red underglow. btw, check ur states laws on it! |
i know red is illegal. (to have on while driving.)
|
personally i don't like them at all
|
any underglow is illegal to have on while driving!
|
wow...my friends have their underglow on all the time. lol
i just thought red was illegal. |
REd and blue are deff illegal because they are police colors.
Also, many things we do nowadays is illegal but you don't get in trouble. I drive a truck on 35 inch tires that stick way too far out in MN, but I don't get in trouble because...nobody...cares.. -Aaron |

It's either Maryland or Maine I think... |
the great state of massachusetts.... where cops are always happy to pull over a teen or non-white driver
|
i think in missouri, they cant be red and/or flashing

ha your close to ohios party plates which equals cop magnet

Party plates here are white. SO I'm good. And i'd ***** out a cop if I got pulled over for no reason other than my plates were gold so they thought so! That'd be quite illegal.
|
in tx...i think most colors are legal...it's just as long as they dont flash
|
What's a party plate?
Brenton |
got pulled over for having red lighted dice hanging from the mirror, that cop told me blue was legal in tx tho
|
underbody lights...wow. I thought this was a thread on trail lights!!
I'm fairly certain, that most states would call "underglow" illegal except in parade cituations, and or special lighting on touring bikes, like goldwings. Also fairly certain on the following: No red light facing forward, no white facing rearward unless for reverse lights. No blue under any circumstance. Red and blue are reserved for emergency vehicles. |
Used to think the lights were legal in GA too...until I got pulled over more than once and asked the cop what was legal....no color is legal in GA. The only time you can run your neons is if you are parked.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but, according to MN state trooper David Marquart, any underglow neon, which includes neon under and around the vehicle, regardless of color, is illegal flashing, or not. however, he stated that most cars won't be pulled over unless the amount and brightness of the neon lights is "excessive" but warns: "that doesn't mean your vehicle is safe from getting a ticket even if you just have a small amount of neon"

legality varies state-to-state. in california, theyre legal as long as theyre not flashing, and as long as theyre not red in the the front.
California: 25400. (a) Any vehicle may be equipped with a lamp or device on the exterior of the vehicle that emits a diffused nonglaring light of not more than 0.05 candela per square inch of area. (b) Any diffused nonglaring light shall not display red to the front, but may display other colors. A diffused nonglaring light shall not resemble nor be installed within 12 inches or in such position as to interfere with the visibility or effectiveness of any required lamp, reflector, or other device upon the vehicle. (c) A diffused nonglaring lamp or device, other than a display sign authorized by subdivision (d), shall be limited in size to an area of 720 square inches and where any lease, rental, or donation is involved the installation of the lamp or device shall be limited to those vehicles operated either primarily within business or residential districts or municipalities, or between business districts, residential districts, and municipalities in close proximity. (d) An internally illuminated sign emitting not more than 0.25 candela per square inch and possessing copy which does not contain a white background may be displayed on each side, but not on the front or rear, of a trolley coach or of a bus being operated in urban or suburban service as described in Section 35107 of this code. Missouri is a bit trickier, but the relevant info is buried in their code; Limitations on lamps other than headlamps--flashing signals prohibited except on specified vehicles--penalty. 307.100. 1. Any lighted lamp or illuminating device upon a motor vehicle other than headlamps, spotlamps, front direction signals or auxiliary lamps which projects a beam of light of an intensity greater than three hundred candlepower shall be so directed that no part of the beam will strike the level of the roadway on which the vehicle stands at a distance of more than seventy-five feet from the vehicle. Alternately flashing warning signals may be used on school buses when used for school purposes and on motor vehicles when used to transport United States mail from post offices to boxes of addressees thereof and on emergency vehicles as defined in section 304.022, RSMo, on buses owned or operated by churches, mosques, synagogues, temples or other houses of worship, and on commercial passenger transport vehicles or railroad passenger cars that are stopped to load or unload passengers, but are prohibited on other motor vehicles, motorcycles and motor-drawn vehicles except as a means for indicating a right or left turn. the problem is that most states dont have specific code on underbody/glow style lighting, so you have to apply other vehicle codes to them. generally speaking, cops know very little about aftermarket lighting and how it fits into the vehicle code, so generally they'll assume its illegal... that doesnt mean it is though. i carry a copy of the california code in my truck just in case. i've actually been pulled over and ticketed for my underbody lights... went to court with the relevant california code, and the judge dropped the ticket instantly. I have a multicolor streetglow ub kit and absolutely love it. assuming you hide the tubes properly, take your time on the installation, and go with a color that compliments your truck, i think underglow can look VERY nice. I generally have mine on either white or neo-blue. |
