I don't really want to damage them, someone maybe could use them, but I'm replacing them with these:

 

Well it's probably safer to go behind the fender and push the peg that holds it in place out. That will require removing anything that is in the way of you reaching it however. Or if you're patient, just take a cloth and a preferably rubber tipped screwdriver (coat with silicon or something) just to make sure nothing scratches. I don't speak from experience, just theoritcs, but one of the above should be the method everyone uses.

 

I used a plastic putty knife to get them off of my totalled 02 and it scratched the hell out of it. I don't believe the inside of the fender is accessible AT ALL from the engine bay, and I surely don't want to remove the fender!

What about using a hairdryer to heat up the adhesive?

 

Ok do this on a really hot day let it sit out in the sun, take a hairdrier or heat gun set on low. and take your hands and carfully pry them off, is this isnt working take fishing like or thin wire and "cut" the foam emblem tape, then from there you can clean off the rest of the tape easly. then poish it clean and mount the new one's have fun

 

Yeah the fishing line trick works great! I did that with mine when I was removing emblems off of my bent body panels.

 

Yep. That's how to do it. Good choice on NOT doing something like removing the fender. Trust me, reinstalling a fender can be annoying.

BTW - where did you get those badges?

 

I got a set of regular chrome badges and prepped/painted them myself.

Yeah, do the hairdryer thing, that's how I got mine off my tailgate, and I believe they are the same type of badge.

Worst case he'd have tied onto my front suspension girdle and probably it would have yanked my valance off, but that was really academic because obviously I was able to back down.

I was going to reccommend my patented "wreck the fender, have the body shop do it" approach. You way looks much better.

 

Blow dryer, kite string, bug sponge, and bug/tar remover.

Thanks for the info. I may acetone my badges one day, and couldn't figure out how to remove them.

 

Yeah that will be a pain because you'll also have to clean the gunk off the back of the badges and re-apply some type of adhesive foam. I just went the easy route and bought replacement emblems w/ foam tape applied and painted those.
