Windshield question

I have a 2001 Ranger and I need a new windshield. I would like to have one from the newer Rangers with the RANGER in the center top of the glass. Im thinking the newer ones will fit the older trucks but I wanted to ask here and see if anyone knows for sure.

I'm not positive on the fitment, but i'd look at the price of the glass since i think you can only get the "ranger" from ford...before worrying too much. I think it's pretty pricey!

Most people go through insurance when getting a new windshield because of the price. I'm sure it would be cheaper and easier to just replace it and get a vinyl made to put on it, rather then go through Ford. Something like that, you'd need to contact the factory.

I believe there is an aftermarket that says "Ranger" on it.

Ford does not make glass. They buy it from "Carlite" and then mark up the price. I replaced my Mustang windshield with a Carlite that had the Mustang Pony Logo in the top.

I just checked my '04 Ranger EDGE with stock windshield and it is a Carlite product.

You should be able to get the windshield you want from any Auto Glass Company that handles Carlite windshields. The difference in price of a standard one and one with the Ford Logo (Ranger or Mustang) is around 75-100 dollars.

I cannot tell you if the newer one will fit your '01 Ranger, but I believe it would. The Auto Glass Company should be able to tell you before ordering.

I've always been jealous of the Rangers that have those windshields and think it isn't fair the Mazdas don't get something similar. I need to come up with some sort of cool idea for it.

Yeah, I have already priced one through a local glass company and they have a few of them. They asked me when I called if mine had the Ranger on it knowing it was an 01 so I think it will work. Just wanted to check and see if anyone here knew for sure though. Insurance is covering they approved it if it will fit.

I know Shane wants it in his so I would assume he already knows it fits. I had my windshield replaced and the insurance company wanted to put the plain one in but I specifically told them I wanted the new style and I wanted them to bill the insurance. Somehow they got the insurance company to pay the extra so I have the stock windshield still. Tell the glass shop what you want as most shops don't care where the money comes from as long as they get paid they could probably bill insurance so you don't pay more.

EDIT: I was typing as you did... I guess bottom line is Shane's been looking at putting one in his 2001 so it must fit.

Carlite is the only glass manufacturer to have Ford's approval to make the ones with the Ranger in the frit. They also have a Ford oval on the bottom corner. Retail is upwards of $350 for the '06+ shield. My cost is about $150 IF i can get it locally. If I can't, it'll have to come from Carlite. The non-ranger frit shields are made by many manufacturers, and generally windshield shops only pay about $30-50 per windshield....and because of the non-ranger frit shields being made by many manufacturers, they are cheap are readily avaliable. Cheap is the name of the game. I've seen 06+'s with the old ranger shields. The shields themselves, size and fitment wise) are the same from 93+, but the frit and tint(GB) are the differences in them. Happy you've got the good luck on your insurance covering the 06+ shield. I'm very soon going to see if mine will approve it. I've got the part number for the shield...the NAGS system part number that all the glass places use.

I used to work for Gaurdian. They manufacture all GM windshields for GM. They are made with GM logos etched into the shield...but when we sell them to non-GM companys as replacements, the GM logo is burned and covered up. Probably ALOT like what Carlite does.

With an installed price of only $245 plus tax for the original carlite shield for my '96 ranger it hardly makes sense to go through insurance - and the carlite is only $20 more than xyz out of china or wherever - and it come with the proper tint, masking, trim, and even the mirror mount pre-installed.

No "ranger" etching,

Be careful which glass mfg'r you use. The previous owner of my 2003 B2300 put in a new windshield, and it is VISIBILY wavy across the top. Even the rubber trim follows the waves.

Never seen anything like it. So far no leaks, but that SOB put in the cheapest thing he could find and it SHOWS! Literally!

I know that Pilkington makes superb glass and Carlite is OEM to Ford.
