Hey guys I am very curious to know what years I can get a 4.0L in a regular cab? Have tried to look it up and just can't find the info. Thanks!

 

were they even available in 4.0? i thought their upgrade was to the 3.0...

 

Yep. I know some years had a reg cab 4.0 but dunno what years :(

 

I know of one regular cab 99 4.0 OHV here (green prerunner mall crawler). I know of an 01 4.0 regular cab (yellow one from Washington, sold it after he realized you can only have one passenger in a regular cab). I've seen an 04 4.0 regular cab on craiglist (white, plain jane, and flipped over). I know for sure they do right now since the 3.0 is gone so the 4.0 has to be an option on regular cabs.

according to ranger station (the oldest ranger community on the planet lol) regular cab 4.0s have been around as long as the engine has. 1990. need to look around for a 90-92 4.0 regular cab example and a 93-97 4.0 regular cab example.

I would trade my 2000 2.5L for a 1996 or 1997 4.0L any day. It would need to have similar mileage and the right options of course. I really want extended cab.

 

you are mistaken. i'm looking at a 2010 brochure and it says 4.0L (supercab only)


i saw an 01 a few years back that was. it was for sale and might have been an fx4 too.

when i was younger, i asked a dealer to find a reg cab, long bed with 4wd and there were like 6 in all of canada. this was 2002 or 2003.

That may be true, i have no idea about canada rangers and i'm pretty clueless about 04+ ranger specifics in general.


really? an 01 fx4? and a regular cab?

sorry to burst your bubble there were no fx4 anythings before 2002. US or canada. maybe it was a 4x4 off road?

 

i pulled 01 for that front end style. all i know was it was silver, regcab, 4.0L. i could have sworn seeing an fx4 badge, if that was the case, then it was 02+.

 

Only year you could get the 4.0 SOHC in a regular cab 4x2 was 2001. You could get it in recent years but only in 4x4. I'm not sure about the years you could get the 4.0 OHV in regular cabs.

 

Wrong again. FX4s only came as supercabs. Not only that but 4.0 Reg Cabs only came in 01 so it couldn't have been an FX4.

 

There was a guy on here in Canada that had a 2004 4.0L reg. cab FX4. They're rare, but they only have the reg. cab FX4's in Canada I think.

I searched, his username was "effexfour". He sold it and got a Subaru.

 

like posted, they are rare. read my first post, i looked for a reg cab 7' box with 4wd. there were 6 in canada. they exist but are like a unicorn. i was wrong on the year. i know what saw and i'm not the type of guy to B.S. anyone. i have no reason to lie to make myself look good or to be something i'm not.

OP, i know you wanted to keep it limited to 2wd, but i think you had to check the 4wd to be able to get a 4.0L.
