Bumper options

So, I'm looking to replace my dented and bent-up-under the bed chrome bumper (we got rearended last summer). I don't feel like bending the brackets back and it looking half-assed so I'd like to buy a complete bumper assy. It's for a styleside.

I found a guy on ebay with a complete NEW assy for 289.15 but he won't budge on the price. And then I found one on CL that is WHITE, brand new, complete assy for 220.

So, do I buy the white one and replace the FRONT bumper TOO with a white bumper? Or do I go with ebay dude who doesn't budge on the price? I haven't looked for front white bumpers or at prices yet. The good thing though would be that I just need the painted part of the front. The front is undamaged.

thanks in advance.

Okay, here are some pics>>

This is an 01 Edge. is this an "edge" bumper or does it have another name? And will it fit my 01 supercab 2wd 3.0 V6 styleside?

my truck

and then another edge, I guess, with the white bumper. Styleside.

Well, I'd like to stay as stock looking as possible. If I had a 4x4 it'd be a different situation.

something like this: 98-08 Ranger Front Tube Bumper - Long Travel Suspensions - Dixon Bros Racing I like the red truck they have up at the top. But that's the "edge" bumper I referred to above with a tube deal sticking out of it. But I wouldn't have any need for the tube bumper that the white ranger has that eliminates the entire front bumper.

I like this one but it's an f350.

but now, I don't necessarily have to go with a tube bumper. Someone else could and then they could sell me their white bumper. Or just sell me a mint looking used rear chrome counterpart. complete with brackets, etc. of course.

so this guy has an awesome write up. I'm not a huge fan of just removing the bottom half of the front bumper. at first I thought it looked good until I figured it out.

and it's only 2wd?! thats kind of sick. I was under the impression that all EDGE series trucks were 4x4. weird.

so, I can go with the edge/4x4 bumpers painted and have to replace everything.

OR

the new STX bumpers seem to have the same "bumper" but painted and the valance is the stx.
here are some pics of what I'm thinking:

my truck again:

I don't think it'd look too bad with a white rear bumper with black step pad, then front chrome bumper with white stx valance.

part# 17757 is used on both an 01 xlt chrome and an 05 stx paint to match.

2001 Ford Ranger | FordParts.com

2005 Ford Ranger | FordParts.com

so they do use the same exact bumper. I'll check with ford tomorrow just to make sure.

ok....so hi Walther. Welcome to the site.

You're jumping around all over the place so i'll try and cover it all with this one post....

I'm only covering front components...rear is up to you.

What you want to do is up to you and your wallet. If it were me, I'd get a chrome rear bumper, 4x4 chrome upper, and a colormatched edge valence like this....

I don't particularly like the painted step pad....but whatever...

Here's an alternative to the STX cover....and IMO is ALOT better looking option AND it's already the correct white for your truck:

It's in SC. Road trip? lol.

It's a SLP/Roush Thunderbolt Ranger valence. It bolts right up to where your old valence was and doesn't hang as low as the STX.

yeah, sorry I have jumped around a lot on this thread. Kind of helps me keep it all in one place and learn at the same time.

As far as the pics I have, yeah, I figured out the difference with the front bumper. That's why I started thinking of trading with mmmtof. That way I could get an edge/4x4 style bumper and valance and do fogs

my reference for the 01 and 05 parts lists at fordparts.com was for my 01 2wd bumper assy and the 05 stx bumper assy. So is it 01-05 or 01-07? I'm guessing they stopped making the stx's after 07?

So the XL/XLT bumper (no ears) will work with a lot of stuff, just not anything that goes to an edge/4x4. And I wouldn't need a 4x4/edge bumper and valance just to have fogs if I have a roush/stx valance. Otherwise I have to change out the entire bumper assy with an edge/4x4 complete package deal.

If it were me, I'd get a chrome rear bumper, 4x4 chrome upper, and a colormatched edge valence like this....

what's your opinion, and anyone elses, on if I went with Nathan's black bumper, white roush valance and my other guys rear bumper black pad and white bumper. It would look the "same" in essence being color matched. EDIT: AND would the roush valance look good with a 3" spindle lift/rotors, AAL rear, etc? with probably 31x10.50 stock/33x11.50 15/16x8

and thanks for the pics too. I like that looking the same. I was kind of thinking it might look "okay" to have the xl/xlt chrome bumper, white valance and black rear pad/white bumper. I think you're right though it would look better color matched.
And thanks for the lead on the roush deal. I went with STX merely becasue I saw that blue stx and saw the front bumper went all the way back and a light went off and I got a bit excited. The stx wouldn't be my first choice as it drops so low compared to the rest of the body. it is sporty, has fogs, but is kind of an eyesore and I wonder why they didn't make it flow better with the truck.
