here is the deal. My old ranger did this too and it pissed me off to no end. I was NOT expecting my new truck to do this so it is very upsetting that it does. anyways here it goes.

I get a random 'skip' or 'jump' felt through the whole truck. Feels like of like if you have it in 5th gear, put the clutch in and make the truck go back to idle then pop the clutch with no rev match. Ive put 6k miles on this truck already in all kinds of conditons. Everything from hardcore rain to sunshine. It just started last night when it was snowing. I guarentee when I drive to work this morning and if it is not snowing it will be fine.

also, 2wd or 4wd, doesnt matter, still does it. So it cant be drive train bindup

 

Mine also only does this when there is light snow. There has been discussion of improper air filters causing this, my truck had a K&N when I bought it so I switched to a Motorcraft paper one. Same issue. I've been meaning to plug in my scan tool so I can see what is going on. Mine also does it at the same spot everytime I drive to the next town when there is snow of course.

well, at least it seems to be more common than I though. Not a good thing, but maybe it will be easier to find a 'proper' solution.

I found a thread on TRS and someone said a ford tech told them it was the torque converter. Well, we know for sure that isnt the case since we all have 5speeds.

My truck needs a tune-up anyways, so Ill do that with an upgraded coil and wires. Ill seafoam as well. Im almost possitive that isnt it but its worth a shot.

 

but the thing i dont get is in all of that snow we got blasted with last winter and i was out driving my truck didnt do it at all...and it was during light to moderate snow..weird lol

 

I've got new plugs and wires. It only does it when it picks up light snow. I'm not sure if it's the MAF causing it, but I will plug my reader in and watch to see what happens

i've heard of this happening, but never expericened it myself, the only cold/snowing problem i have is a longer crank time till it fires. but to me sounds like some kind of air filter/MAF problem.

 

Yeah...I've checked the air filter seal and filter condition after driving in snow, no issues, no snow packed in the filter.

 

lol, im so glad its not just my truck that is doing this. I didnt know what to think when it did it to me the first time this winter. I tried to explain it to my brother and he looked at me like i was talking another language. really strange, but i would be interested to see what a scan reveals.

 

this is driving me up a wall. same problem as the OP. i would like to know what the scanner reveals. ill try and see what happens by putting my stock filter back in.

 

I had this issue last year when i drove to ohio in a snow storm & it was only when i was on the highway doing like 45 plus

i do remember someone else made a thread stating it was moisture on the MAF sensor.

 

I"ll ask around tomorrow, to see what the other gearheads think. but when was the last time anyone cleaned their MAF? this kind of makes me want to go do mine.

At least yours only does it when it snows. Mine does this everyday, for about 2 years now. A buddy of mine has an 02 F-150 that does the exact same thing that mine does. He had talked to a Ford tech. and he had mentioned the Torque Converter.
Mine does this buck/hesitation if you are light on the accelerator going uphill. I have to take my foot off the gas and hit it a little harder at the base of hills to get it to downshift. If I rest my foot on the pedal it also does this.
I have tried almost everything trying to track this down, but just can't figure it out. Another thing that I heard that it could be is the computer. Some reprogram to get rid of this problem. Just haven't justified the $100 for this to be done. Seems to me like another recall problem that they wont take care of on this F'n truck.

 

Tune-up might help, but it definitely sounds like a MAF or some other sensor issue. I would consider moisture buildup within the coil pack (maybe possibly freezing) but it would also do that when its merely cold outside without the snow, so I doubt that its the issue.

Thankfully mine doesn't mind snow, as we've been getting no lack of it around here and I still have to drive an hour to work every day regardless of the weather. A scan tool may not pick up any problems as I doubt that it will throw a code, it would make more sense (if possible) for the truck to be run through a laptop that's recording how it runs, and checks the voltage on individual sensors as the problem arises. I'm not a techy, but if that technology exists then it would solve (or point out) the problem very quickly. LR

 

I wish it would throw a code, it would have been fixed 2 years ago.

 

It really depends on the scan tool. Some will, some wont.
