2001 EDGE Hood Painting.

What’s up guys Today I started my hood paint job. I am not a professional in any way but I have done aircraft painting. So here is an easy way you can paint your truck/parts without having to have all the tools that paint shops have.

First you need to get a few supplys what every paint you would like to use I used duple paint from a parts store (high Gloss), a paint roller not a fluffy one buy the hard ones it will take allot more work if you use the latter, painters tape, sand paper 100grt 400grt and 1000grt, and last but not least rubbing compound. Next you should remove the hood, you don’t have to but it makes it easier to work on.

After you have removed the Hood tape off the area you wanna paint, or where you don’t want paint to go. I suggest you use painter’s tape it is easier to use and leave no sticky residue after you remove it and leaves a clean line.

Next you will sand the area that needs to be painted with the 100grt sand paper so that the paint will adhere to the hood make sure you do this part or the paint will just pile right off. If you do not have and paint thinner or rubbing alcohol to clean off the sanded surface you can use Windex ya its weird but it work really well. Now check that your tape lines are still intact from the sanding if not fixes the lines before continuing.

Now you are ready to paint, roll on one layer of paint if it does not completely cover all the paint don’t worry the next three coasts will. Wait 30 min between coats.

After the last coat wait 15 min and remove the tape slowly so that no paint pulls up with the tape. Now depending on the pain you used you will have a few hours before you can do any work with it.

As you can see I have gotten this far and the paint will not be dry till after dark so I must wait till next weekend to finish this thread no time during the week. I have to drive my truck to work tomorrow so in the morning I will but it back on till the weekend.

You used a roller to paint your hood? I'd like close up shots of this.

cut the paint with acetone to level it after you roll like the 50$ paint job? should turn out well, have fun with all the endless sanding to get it flat

No Not really and I have seen some done that look amazing when finished. I think you wet sand it and buff it to finish it off.
