anyone have a clue about dovetailing and bobbing?

hey guys, im on the prowl for a cheap 1st or 2nd gen ranger, reg cab, short bed, and if i find one it will be used for offroading. i have all the tools i need (i think) readily available. so if anyone wants to share a post or how-to, that would be great. thanks! or even pics of dovetailed ranger would be helpful. thanks!

lol thanks. do you have to completely cut off each side panel? or would i be able to dovetail it after the wheel wells? then i would feel the need to bob it and it would still be pretty street legal

If you plan on bobbing it too, I would do that first. Then dove tail it. If you dove tail first, the opening will get wider when you bob it.

Don't bob a ranger, its useless. Tacomas can take off like a foot, but rangers you can only lose like 4" before you get to the shackle. so its really not worth all the work.

as for dove tailing.. don't do it like me.

but the functional side of the dovetail is awesome, saved my bed from a ton of carnage.

Why would you do this to your Ranger? What does it do for you? I've never seen this before.

^ You do this because you are bored and want to do something to your truck. You think "Hey, what can I do to make my truck look like a piece of crap." So, you get your sawzall out and start cutting your bed up.

Haha. . . . ok. I'm not saying it's bad, just asking what it does.

Just gives you more body clearance for tight trails. Plus it's just cool.

ive been strongly considering it. but the only thing is the legality and running it on the street. i would be screwed!! but after this last week of wheeling, i really PHAWKED up my bed! the bed side pretty much was torn off! haha so at this point im strongly considering a flatbed, anyone ever done a flatbed on a ranger??
