Usually when you remove any emissions equipment you won't pass.

If you want sound then get rid of it. You may lose some power though.

Why do you want to do this?

If you are assuming the truck will be faster you are making an uneducated assumption.

no i know it wont, kinda looking for sound, thats why im wondering about the cats, i've known them to dampen sound so 2 seems like it would do twice more

its possible but if you are only taking one off there wont be any performance gain or really and sound gain I know somtimes it does help to run 93 in the truck when your going through emissions

My '03 had 4. I don't know about everyone else, and i'm no ford engineer, but if only one cat would clean the exhaust up just fine, why waste the money and put more than one, right?

They're on there for a reason. If they check the emissions out of the tail-pipe you could possibly fail.

But then again, we have no emissions/inspections at all here in alabama :)

interesting cuz i have a 93 4.0L 5 speed and it only has 1 cat i believe and a muffler. course where i live in BC we dont have air care or emissions, so i could flip my exhaust manifolds upside down and run 2- 4 foot pipes up through the hood for an exhaust and they wont bug ya.. there's a ton of straight piped gassers and diesel here that are loud and they dont get bugged.

EDIT: sorry it has 2 cats. i was under it today and noticed it.

IM a obd2 and safty inspecter in NC and in your case its a 93 wich means you are safty inspection only not obd2 you dont get pluged up to a computer and sent to the state gov.
I dont know about your state.
IN NC I would only go under your truck and "look" and if i felt like a dick and did not get any the night beffor than i would fail you for not having it.
but 99% of the time i would not give a **** and pass you with out looking at any thing. BUT if its relly loud
(after removing cats) the inspecter will know right away and look...I had a super charged big block cobra come in and it was relly loud my boss told me to fail it I DID not want to but...)all he had was borlas and turn downs
